Town and Club Festival on German Unity Day at the Hohenmölsen Community Centre
On October 3rd, German Unity Day, the Hohenmölsen Community Centre transforms into an open meeting point: at the Children's, Town, and Club Festival, around 80 of the town's clubs present themselves with information stands, hands-on activities, and demonstrations. Hundreds of citizens gather on this morning to learn about club life, connect with others, or simply enjoy the family day.
The festival traditionally opens with the release of doves — a quiet, dignified moment that symbolically embraces German Unity Day. Afterwards, the town enters names into the Golden Book: outstanding clubs, honorary citizens, and individuals are recognized for their commitment.
Afterwards, the clubs take centre stage — literally. With exhibitions, demonstrations, and promotional activities for their youth work, clubs that are the backbone of social life in Hohenmölsen present themselves. The Antennenverein (Antenna Club) plays a special role — with over 3,000 members, it's the largest club in the unified municipality — offering technical demonstrations. The Drei Türme e.V. club organises a medieval programme with stalls, demonstrations, and hands-on activities.
Inside the Community Centre, the children's programme runs: hands-on activities, craft stalls, a bouncy castle, small theatre performances, and sports stations. Parents use the time to get information at the club stands about activities for their children — from sports clubs and scouts to music and carnival clubs.
Hohenmölsen is located in the southern Burgenlandkreis (Burgenland District), near the border with Saxony and Thuringia, about 25 km southwest of Leipzig. The town is known for the surrounding open-cast lignite mining and its diverse club landscape, which is celebrated annually at the club festival on October 3rd.
Civic, dignified, family-friendly. Unlike the big Volksfeste (popular festivals) with schlager music late into the night, the Hohenmölsen Club Festival is a rather quiet, refined morning event: doves in the sky, Golden Book entries in the foyer, medieval stalls in the courtyard, children's laughter in the Community Centre. It is precisely this mix that makes the festival a firm fixture in Hohenmölsen's annual calendar.
The 2026 edition again falls on German Unity Day. The programme follows the proven format: ceremonial opening with dove release, recognition of clubs and citizens through entries in the Golden Book, club stands, medieval offerings from the Drei Türme club, and a children's programme at the Community Centre.
The festival also serves as a showcase for the town's approximately 80 clubs and an opportunity for families to learn about club life.
