Summer Festival of the Volunteer Fire Brigade
Fire brigade festivals have a long and cherished tradition in Rhineland-Palatinate. In almost every Mosel village, the local brigades organize a summer festival annually, the proceeds of which go towards maintaining equipment, youth work, and the community life of the fire brigade. The Müden (Mosel) Fire Brigade Festival follows this tradition and has established itself over the years as a convivial meeting point for locals and weekend guests.
Müden is a picturesque Mosel village between Treis-Karden and Cochem, known primarily for its location at the entrance to the Eltzbach valley. From here, hikers can reach the famous Eltz Castle—one of Germany's most beautiful and best-preserved castles—in about a 90-minute hike. This tourist attraction also influences the village's festival life: the Fire Brigade Festival regularly attracts Eltz Castle visitors looking for a convivial end to their day in a Mosel atmosphere.
Over two days on the first weekend of June, the festival grounds transform into a small festival mile with a festival tent, beer stands, food stalls, and a stage. Regional bands play on Saturday and Sunday evenings, while Sunday features a traditional 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) with brass music. Culinary offerings range from 'Schwenkbraten' (grilled pork neck) cooked over an open fire to bratwurst, fries, and Mosel specialties.
The firefighters themselves are the heart of the festival. They undertake all tasks voluntarily—from setup and dismantling to catering and stage technology. Visitors to the Fire Brigade Festival support the maintenance of an institution indispensable for rural safety with every beer and every 'Schwenkbraten'.
The 2026 Fire Brigade Festival in Müden will take place on Saturday, June 6th, and Sunday, June 7th. The organizer is the Müden (Mosel) Volunteer Fire Brigade, whose comrades organize the festival on a voluntary basis.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the Müden Volunteer Fire Brigade in the spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
