A Festival for the Rapeseed Blossom
The LandesrapsblĂĽtenfest is the major Volksfest (traditional folk festival) in the town of Sternberg in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. It celebrates the rapeseed blossom, which bathes the fields of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in a radiant yellow in May. Rapeseed is one of the region's defining crops, and the festival turns this agricultural tradition into a three-day town festival. It is organised by the association Sternberg und MEHR e.V. together with the town of Sternberg.
Parade and Royal Crowning
The highlight of the weekend is the grand parade on Saturday, which winds its way through Sternberg's town centre. Afterwards, the festival is officially opened, and in the afternoon, a new royal court is crowned – a custom that gives the Volksfest its festive flair. Showmen and traders line the streets, along with agricultural demonstrations and a cultural stage programme.
Music from Morning till Night
The festival begins on Friday evening with an open-air party and ends on Sunday with a closing concert and an evening field concert in the town church. In between, there are band performances, dance parties, a morning music gathering (Musikfrühschoppen), and an open-air service. Thus, the Landesrapsblütenfest appeals to a wide range of generations – from the party crowd to families.
Sternberg in the Lake District
Sternberg is located in the Sternberger Seenland (Sternberg Lake District), a landscape in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania characterised by forests and lakes. The LandesrapsblĂĽtenfest is the biggest event of the year here and an attraction for guests from all over the region. It combines the identity of the small town with the agricultural character of the federal state.
LandesrapsblĂĽtenfest — edition 2026
The 22nd edition of the LandesrapsblĂĽtenfest concentrates the festive life of the town of Sternberg over three days. It kicks off on Friday evening with a 90s and 2000s-style open-air party. Saturday, with its parade, official opening, and royal crowning, is the central festival day, while Sunday concludes with a church service, morning music gathering, and concerts.
The festival combines customs, agriculture, and music: showmen and traders line the town centre, agricultural demonstrations recall the importance of rapeseed cultivation, and a varied stage programme provides entertainment from morning till night.

- 8:00 PM — Opening by showmen and traders
- 8:00 PM — Open-air party »90s/2000s« with DJs from Emergency Exit, performance by Undine Lux with pyrotechnics and confetti (admission 5 EUR)
Saturday, May 2nd
- 10:00 AM — Opening of showmen and traders (free admission)
- 11:00 AM — Grand parade through the town centre
- 12:00 PM — Official opening by the Mayor and Patron
- 12:00 PM–5:00 PM — Cultural programme with games, agricultural demonstrations, and stage shows; performances by Jo & Josephine and SHELVIS (Elvis Tribute), among others

Getting There
Sternberg is conveniently located between Schwerin and GĂĽstrow. By car, you can reach the town via the federal roads B104 and B192; the festival activities are concentrated on the market square and the town centre.
Admission
Saturday and Sunday are free to enter during the day. An admission fee of 5 EUR is charged for the open-air party on Friday evening.
Tip
Come for the grand parade on Saturday morning – it is considered the heart of the festival.
