Four Days of Traditional Costume, Brass Music, and Local Pride in the West Allgäu
The Alpsommer- und Heimatfest Maierhöfen is one of the most atmospheric local festivals in the West Allgäu. The municipality of Maierhöfen is located in the Lindau (Bodensee) district in Bavaria, in the hilly pre-Alpine landscape of the Allgäu. The festival was created as a replacement for the traditional Viehscheid, which is no longer held in its original form in Maierhöfen – the festival culture and customs live on in the Alpsommerfest.
The highlight is the grand parade with around twelve brass bands and numerous traditional costume groups, transforming the municipality into a sea of brass music and Alpine traditional costumes. Over four days, guests can experience:
The Alpsommerfest combines the serious, dignified side of local customs – traditional costumes, brass music, parades – with the convivial atmosphere of the festival tent. It is thus typical of the vibrant club and customs culture that shapes social life in the Allgäu. For visitors from outside, it offers an authentic insight into the Alpine identity of the region.
