Neighbourhood festival at Ohlstedter Platz in Hamburg North
Far in the northeast of Hamburg, where the Wandsbek district borders Schleswig-Holstein, lies Wohldorf-Ohlstedt. With just 4,500 inhabitants, the district is one of the most rural corners of the Hanseatic city – thatched-roof houses, riding stables, and the Wohldorf forest shape the landscape. Right in the middle: Ohlstedter Platz, the venue for the Ohlstedter Dorffest every year.
The Bürgerverein Duvenstedt/Wohldorf-Ohlstedt e.V. (Residents' Association) organises the Dorffest in cooperation with sports clubs, schools, and the volunteer fire brigade. Unlike commercial city festivals, nothing here is "event marketing" – the clubs set up the stalls themselves, the music groups come from the Walddörfer Gymnasium, the La Danza dance school, and TSV DUWO 08 e.V. The beer is a special Festbier (festival beer), brewed for the event.
The format has remained largely the same over the years: the flea market around the square opens in the early afternoon. From 2 PM, the open-air stage kicks off with music and dance performances by local groups. The fire brigade showcases its vehicles, TSV DUWO 08 organises sports and games stations for children, and regional caterers serve bratwurst, fries, and cake.
Wandsbek, with over 440,000 inhabitants, is Hamburg's largest district, stretching from the city centre (Eilbek, Marienthal) far into the rural north (Bergstedt, Duvenstedt, Wohldorf-Ohlstedt). The Dorffest serves as a reaffirmation for the northern districts, whose rural identity clearly sets them apart from the denser neighbourhoods south of Wandsbeker Marktplatz.
The 2026 Dorffest will be held on Saturday, August 29, from 2 PM to 9 PM at Ohlstedter Platz. The event is organised by the Bürgerverein Duvenstedt/Wohldorf-Ohlstedt e.V., as confirmed in the event calendar on bv-duwooh.de.
The programme follows the established format: a flea market around the square, an open-air stage with music and dance, fire brigade demonstrations, sports and games stations, regional food stalls, and the traditional Festbier. Flea market stall reservations can be made in advance via [email protected].
The complete 2026 stage programme will be published by the residents' association a few weeks before the festival.
