27th Östringer Fastnachtsumzug — Carnival fun through the Kraichgau town
On Carnival Saturday, February 14, 2026, it's that time again: precisely at 2:11 PM, the 27th Östringer Fastnachtsumzug will get underway. The saying „Spass uff de Gass” — in High German "Fun on the Street" — perfectly captures the motto: Baden-style carnival with humor, music, and a huge confetti shower.
The fun procession winds through the decorated streets of Östringen with numerous floats, walking groups, dance troupes, and Guggenmusik ensembles from the region. Local carnival clubs, schools, sports clubs, and independent groups participate. Candies, chocolates, and small throwable items are tossed to the spectators from the floats — bring a bag. The route leads through the main street and the center of Östringen.
Baden-style carnival has deep roots in Östringen. Unlike the Swabian-Alemannic carnival further south and the Rhenish variant further north, the Kurpfalz-Baden carnival is a mix of both worlds — colorful, loud, and with lots of music, but also with traditional dance troupes and gala events. The Östringen parade is one of the largest carnival events in the southern Karlsruhe district and regularly attracts tens of thousands of spectators from all over the Kraichgau and the Kurpfalz.
With around 13,000 inhabitants, Östringen is located in the southern Karlsruhe district between Bruchsal, Bad Schönborn, and Sinsheim. The town in the Kraichgau is surrounded by orchards, vineyards, and rolling hills. Besides carnival, Östringen is known for its traditional fruit orchards and the region's fruit and wine-growing heritage. The districts of Tiefenbach, Eichelberg, and Odenheim — the latter an important wine-growing town — are part of the municipality.
The carnival parade on Saturday is the highlight of a multi-day carnival weekend with gala sessions, costume parties, masked balls, and children's carnival in the surrounding districts. Those who want to experience the full Baden carnival program should arrive as early as Thursday (Schmotziger Donnerstag).
On Carnival Saturday 2026, the famous fun procession will once again wind its way through Östringen. The start is at the traditional carnival time of 2:11 PM. The route leads through the main street and the center, lined with thousands of spectators from across the region.
Participants will include local carnival clubs, sports and music clubs, as well as independent groups, plus numerous Guggenmusik ensembles. Candies and chocolates are thrown to the spectators from the floats — bring a bag. After the parade, the festivities continue in the pubs and halls of the city center.
Free admission. The parade is public.
By car: A5 exit Kronau, then L 555 to Östringen. By train: S-Bahn Rhein-Neckar Line S33 Östringen station, about a 10-minute walk from the station to the parade route. Note: Parking in the city center is severely restricted on the day of the parade — Park & Walk on the outskirts is recommended.
Free admission. The parade is public.
Bring a large bag for the thrown goodies (candies, chocolates, plush toys). Dress up — a carnival parade without a costume feels like a football match without a scarf.
