Enjoyable summer wine hike through the Malsch vineyards on the Letzenberg
The "Wine and Hike" event by the Malsch vintners is an annual summer highlight in the Malsch event calendar. Several wine stations are set up along a moderate circular route through the vineyards — each station offers the wines of a local vintner, conversations with the producers, and small culinary accompaniments. Hikers complete the circuit at their own pace; many turn it into a relaxed summer Sunday with family and friends.
The Letzenberg is a 261-meter-high hill above Malsch that shapes the winegrowing identity of the municipality. On its summit stands a distinctive St. Mary's chapel, offering a wide view over the Rhine plain and into the Kraichgau. The vineyards stretch across the surrounding slopes — south-facing, with the typical calcareous loess soils of the Kraichgau, which produce elegant, mineral wines.
The Malsch Vintners are a group of local family wineries that have joined forces for joint marketing and events like "Wine and Hike." Various generations are represented — from long-standing traditional businesses to young vintners working with nature-oriented viticulture and experimental cuvées. The range includes classic Kraichgau grape varieties: Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier.
Malsch (Rhein-Neckar district, Baden-Württemberg, postcode 69254) is one of the larger winegrowing communities in the southern Kraichgau, with around 14,600 inhabitants. Its self-image as a "wine village" shapes the community — wine festivals, wine hikes, and vintner events take place throughout the year. The district municipality is conveniently located between Heidelberg and Karlsruhe.
On Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, the Malsch vintners invite you from 11 AM to the traditional wine hike through the sunny vineyards on the Letzenberg. The meeting point is the Reblandhalle in Malsch. From there, a moderate circular route leads through the vines — at several stations, hikers can taste the wines of local vintners and chat with the producers.
The circular route is also suitable for families — children will be welcomed with small refreshments. The view from the Letzenberg over the Rhine plain and the Kraichgau is one of the most famous panoramas in the region.
