First time 3 weeks – XXL edition 2026 with Papert beer tent comeback
The Nuremberg Spring Festival is, alongside the Autumn Festival, the most important Volksfest in the Franconian metropolis. In 2026, it will experience a historic expansion: for the first time, it will last not two, but three weeks – from Saturday, April 4th, to Sunday, April 26th. This XXL edition is a response to high demand and the economic importance of the festival for showmen, breweries, and the city's tourism.
Another highlight in 2026: The Papert beer tent returns to the Volksfestplatz after years of absence. The Papert family is one of Nuremberg's beer tent institutions and brings its traditional style – a Franconian beer tent with brass band music, a dance floor, and Franconian pub cuisine – back to the Wiesn. In addition, there is the large brewery beer tent (Tucher, Lederer, etc.), an Augustiner tent bar, and several smaller snack and beer tents.
The Spring Festival relies on a mix of classic folk festival folklore and modern attractions. In addition to the beer tents, there is the full range of rides: a Ferris wheel with a view over the Dutzendteich grounds, several roller coasters, bumper cars, a chain carousel, classic family attractions like the swing boat and haunted house, plus high-thrill rides for adrenaline junkies. A Family Day with reduced prices takes place during the festival; the fireworks display over the Dutzendteich is traditionally set off on the last evening of the festival and can be seen from large parts of Nuremberg.
The Volksfestplatz is located in southern Nuremberg on the Dutzendteich, a body of water surrounded by parkland and forest in the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds. Today, it is a mixed area of recreation and event space, with the Documentation Center, Meistersingerhalle, and Frankenstadion (Max-Morlock-Stadion) as neighbors. Nuremberg, with around 530,000 inhabitants, is Bavaria's second-largest city after Munich, and has a festival tradition dating back to the 19th century – the Spring Festival at Dutzendteich is part of this Franconian folk festival culture, connecting events like Sandkerwa in Bamberg, Plärrer in Augsburg, and the Volksfest in Erlangen with the Wiesn season.
The 2026 XXL edition is the longest version of the Nuremberg Spring Festival in its history. Instead of the previous two weeks, the festival now lasts 23 days – a significant expansion that is widely supported by showmen, restaurateurs, breweries, and the city itself.
The comeback of the Papert beer tent is a second major innovation. The Papert tradition represents the Franconian, slightly old-fashioned version of the folk festival tent: brass band music, a dance floor, Franconian pub cuisine, less spectacle than the large brewery tents. In addition to Papert, there is the large brewery beer tent, the Augustiner tent bar, several snack stands, and specialty stalls.
By car via the A9 (exit Nuremberg-Königshof or Nuremberg-Fischbach), then follow signs for Volksfestplatz. Parking around the Dutzendteich grounds; full on weekends – public transport recommended. By train to Nuremberg Hbf (main station), then take subway U1 to station Frankenstadion (opposite the festival grounds) or tram.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Beer tents charge for consumption (beer from approx. €12–€13 per liter in the large tent). Rides have separate prices (from €3 to approx. €8 per ride). Family Day with reduced prices on specific days.
Opening on Saturday, April 4th, 2 PM; tapping at 5 PM. Opening hours daily 2 PM–11 PM (Sundays/holidays from 1 PM, Fridays/Saturdays until midnight). Highlights on weekends, weekdays are more relaxed on Family Day. Fireworks on the final evening (Sunday, April 26th).
