42 Years of Sommernachtslauf on the Lower Rhine

The Neusser Sommernachtslauf is one of the largest running events in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district. Since 1984, the Turngemeinde Neuss von 1848 e.V. (TG Neuss) has organized the evening run around the Stadtgarten. The 42nd edition in 2026 falls on Saturday, May 30 – traditionally the start of the summer running season in the Rhineland.

Over 3,000 Participants

With more than 3,000 participants, the Sommernachtslauf is one of the best-attended public runs in Western Germany. The format combines sport, emotion, and event atmosphere: thousands of spectators line the route, live music accompanies the event, and the city center transforms into a running track. New course from 2026 – designed by the TG organization team around the Stadtgarten.

18 Competitions for All Age Groups

A total of 18 competitions are on the program. The most important distances:

• 1.25 km Family Run (Parent-Child Run, from 4 PM)
• School and Youth Runs (from 4:30 PM)
• 10 km Main Run (Competition, 6:30 PM)
• 5 km Run in two pace variants: Fast (5:00/km) and Comfort (up to 13:00/km, 7:50 PM)
• Relay (9:30 PM)

Course and Atmosphere

The course leads around the Stadtgarten – the green heart of Neuss city center – and through adjacent streets. The Park-Allee, Drususallee, and the Erftkanal-Uferweg are part of the route. Lighting, course marshals, and refreshment stations are set up throughout. The evening atmosphere – sunset over the Rhine, thousands of runners with headlamps – is legendary.

Registration and Family Time

Registrations are possible online until May 24, 2026. Entry fee tiered by distance. Tip: Those starting with children should choose the Parent-Child Run at 4 PM – a child-friendly distance of 1.25 km without competitive pressure. School and youth runs are separated by age group.

The Turngemeinde Neuss von 1848

The organizer is the Turngemeinde Neuss von 1848 e.V. – one of Neuss's oldest sports clubs and, with over 4,000 members, one of the largest on the Lower Rhine. TG Neuss offers a wide spectrum from gymnastics to football, triathlon, and volleyball. The Sommernachtslauf is one of the club's most high-profile flagship events.

Neuss Runs – The Whole Weekend

Those who take the run as an occasion can spend the whole weekend in Neuss. The run on Saturday, a walk through the city center with the Quirinus Münster, market, and harbor on Sunday – or a trip to the State Garden Show, which will be in full swing by the Sommernachtslauf season.
