Franconian Wine and Music Festival on the First Weekend of August
Hergolshausen is located in the Schweinfurt district on the Schwarzbach river, on the western edge of the Franconian wine-growing region Maindreieck. With its village character, old half-timbered houses, and its own wine queen, this part of Waigolshausen is a typical example of the vibrant wine culture of Lower Franconia. The Straßenweinfest has been cultivating this tradition since the late 1980s – the 2024 edition was the 37th, dating its beginnings to around 1988.
The heart of the festival is the festival grounds on Lindenstraße in the village center. Here, Franconian wines are served over two days – Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, and Bocksbeutel specialties from the region. The wine enjoyment is accompanied by hearty Franconian cuisine: spit-roasted meat (Spießbraten) on a spit over an open fire, sausages (Bratwürste), white sausages (Weißwürste) with pretzels, and sweet delicacies.
Musically, the two days feature a succession of Franconian brass bands and house bands: the Jungen Hergolshäuser open, BrassBrachial and the traditional Musikverein Wipfeld play, and the Hergolshäuser Musikanten take over at the end. A special parade of the wine princess with her retinue officially opens the festival on Saturday evening.
The 2026 edition continues the unbroken tradition, impressively celebrated with the 37th edition in 2024 and the 38th in 2025. Specific confirmed date details for 2026 were not yet available at the time of publication – the festival committee adheres to the first weekend of August, which in 2026 means August 1 and 2.
As usual, the familiar festival program is expected: Saturday afternoon, festival opening on the grounds, appearance of the wine princess in the early evening, followed by Franconian brass music late into the night. On Sunday, the Sunday menu with spit-roasted meat and fresh salads will be the focus from late morning, and the stage program will alternate between young and established Hergolshausen musicians and guest bands from the Schweinfurt region.
