Three days of Franconian wine around the historic market square on the Main loop
As the summer evenings grow long, the small wine-growing community of Wipfeld invites you to one of its most popular festivals. The Straßenweinfest (street wine festival) has been a staple of the Franconian wine calendar for years and is considered a insider tip for those who prefer to trade the hustle and bustle of large Bavarian beer festivals for Silvaner, Bacchus, and a bit of Main tranquility. Wine stands from Wipfeld's vintners line up directly on the historic market square, subtly illuminated between the half-timbered facades.
Only wines from the renowned Wipfelder Zehntgraf steep slope, considered one of the best in Franconia, are served. From young, fresh 'Schoppen' (a glass of wine) to noble white and red wines at the wine and Secco bar, everything is available. Particularly popular are the regional specialties: Traminer, Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris), classic Silvaner, and Bacchus.
To accompany the wine, the Wipfeld locals serve their well-known hearty Franconian specialties – from Bratwurst and Schäufele to Käsespätzle and Flammkuchen. The atmosphere is familiar, intergenerational, and typically Franconian-relaxed. Locals, day-trippers, and cyclists on the Main cycle path gather in the market square in the evenings.
Wipfeld is located in the Schweinfurt district in Bavaria, directly on the Main river between Volkach and Schweinfurt. The village is part of the famous Volkacher Mainschleife (Volkach Main loop) – one of Germany's most beautiful wine regions. A visit to the street wine festival can be ideally combined with a boat trip on the Main, a hike through the vineyards, or a detour to Volkach and the pilgrimage church of Maria im Weingarten.
The 2026 edition of the Wipfeld Street Wine Festival will take place from Friday, August 14th, to Sunday, August 16th, 2026. As in previous years, the wine stands of the Wipfeld vintners and winegrowers will open around the market square and in the adjacent alleys.
The focus will be on wines from the renowned Wipfelder Zehntgraf vineyard, complemented by specialties at the wine and Secco bar. Franconian classics such as Silvaner, Bacchus, Traminer, and Grauer Burgunder will be featured, as well as selected red wines.
The detailed program with performances and exact opening hours will be published in the weeks before the festival on the website of the municipality of Wipfeld.
Admission is free. Wines and food are paid for on-site at the stands – with the usual local prices for Franconian wines.
