Bercher Kerm – Living Customs
The Kirchweih Bergrheinfeld is one of the most vibrant Kirchweih festivals in the Schweinfurt district. For four days, the Holderhecke festival grounds transform into a Franconian festival mile. The »Bercher Kerm« is organized by the Association for the Preservation of Customs and Kirchweih Tradition Bergrheinfeld e.V., which carefully preserves the handed-down traditions.
Customs and Program
Highlights include the parades and the raising of the »Plüabama« (decorated Kirchweih tree) as well as the Plantänze and Franconian round dances performed by the Planpaare (dance couples) in front of the festival tent. Friday kicks off with traditional brass music, Saturday features a parade and beer tapping, Sunday is Family Day with a church service and a senior brass band, and on Monday, the Kerm culminates in a parade of the Planpaare with Franconian round dances.
Sociability and Fun
A large amusement park accompanies the four festival days, along with a festival tent, Franconian specialties, and beer. The Kerm combines the preservation of customs, sociability, and festival tradition into an authentic Lower Franconian Volksfest (folk festival).
Regional Context
Bergrheinfeld is located in the Schweinfurt district, in the Lower Franconia administrative region of Bavaria, near the Main River. The Bercher Kerm is closely linked to the community's identity and is a fixed date in the Franconian Kirchweih calendar.
