Traditional Kirchweih in the center of Gensingen in mid-September with wine from Gensingen vintners, festival activities, and community life
The Gensinger Kerb is a classic Rhenish-Hessian folk festival that takes place every year in mid-September in the town center of Gensingen. Gensingen is located in the Sprendlingen-Gensingen municipality in western Rhenish Hesse, on the Nahe railway line between Bingen am Rhein and Bad Kreuznach. The Kerb is one of the social highlights of the year in the community.
The Kirchweih commemorates the consecration of the local church and is part of a long Rhenish-Hessian tradition. It is organized by the local clubs in close cooperation with the municipality and the restaurateurs. This collective organization shapes the character of the event: a festival by and for the village community, which also attracts guests from surrounding areas.
The venue is the historic town center around the parish church. Festival tents, stalls, and small stages are set up here. The focus of the catering is the wine from the Gensingen vintners, which thrives on the sunny slopes around the municipality. Rhenish-Hessian specialties – Bratwurst, steaks, Spundekäs, Handkäs mit Musik, Flammkuchen – are complemented by candy stalls and carousels.
Classic program points of a Rhenish-Hessian Kerb include the tapping of the first beer keg (Fassbieranstich) for the opening on Saturday evening, the early morning pint (Frühschoppen) with brass music on Sunday morning, the Family Day on Sunday with a program for children, and the festival's conclusion on Sunday evening. Live bands and DJs provide the atmosphere on stage. The stage repertoire typically ranges from Rhenish-Hessian Schlager and cover bands to modern dance hits.
The Gensinger Kerb preserves the character of an authentic village festival and represents the close connection between wine culture, club life, and village community in western Rhenish Hesse.
The 2026 edition continues the long tradition of the Gensinger Kerb. Local clubs, restaurateurs, and vintners participate in the catering. Classic Rhenish-Hessian festival program with live music on stage, carousels for children, and convivial gatherings in the town center.
