The Franconian Street Wine Festival

The »Straßenweinfest« — held on the main street, with tables and benches outdoors — is a special form of the Franconian wine festival. Unlike pure Heckenwirtschaften (seasonal taverns) or marquee wine festivals, it uses the street as a festival mile. This form is typical for the small wine villages around the Maindreieck region between Schweinfurt, Würzburg, and Volkach.

Weingut Gessner and Garstadt

Garstadt is a district of the municipality of Schonungen in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt, located on the Main loop between Schweinfurt and Volkach. Weingut Gessner is one of the traditional winegrowers of the Schweinfurter Maineck and supplies the street wine festival with Franconian wines — Silvaner as a regional classic, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, and Domina as a red specialty.

Program and Atmosphere

The street wine festival offers typical Franconian festival food: Bratwurst, »Blooz« (regional pizza variant), cheese hedgehogs, Franconian sausage salad, and of course, the wines from Weingut Gessner — from Federweisser to Spätlese Silvaner. Live music from regional bands provides entertainment. The charm lies in the village feel: the tables are on the street, neighbors meet neighbors, and the atmosphere is familial.

Garstadt and the Schweinfurt Mainecks

The Schweinfurt district is located in the Lower Franconian Maindreieck and is part of the large Franconian wine region. The region has been producing Franconian wines for centuries and is one of the most important wine-growing centers in Franconia, alongside the Maindreieck and Würzburg. Garstadt itself is small but rich in tradition as a winegrowing community.
