The Franconian Street Wine Festival

The "Straßenweinfest"—held directly on the main street with tables and benches set up under the open sky—is a unique take on the traditional Franconian wine festival. Unlike pop-up taverns or tented events, it turns the street itself into the heart of the celebration. This style is typical of the small wine villages around the Main river loop between Schweinfurt, Würzburg, and Volkach.

Weingut Gessner and Garstadt

Garstadt is part of the municipality of Bergrheinfeld in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt, located about five kilometers south of Schweinfurt along the Main river, at the start of the Mainschleife. Weingut Gessner is a traditional producer in the Schweinfurter Maineck region, supplying the festival with classic Franconian wines—including the regional favorite Silvaner, as well as Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, and the red specialty, Domina.

Program and Atmosphere

The festival offers classic Franconian fare: bratwurst, "Blooz" (a regional flatbread), cheese platters, Franconian sausage salad, and, of course, wines from Weingut Gessner—ranging from Federweißer to Silvaner Spätlese. Live music from local bands provides the soundtrack. The charm lies in its village character: tables are set up in the street, neighbors gather, and the atmosphere is warm and family-friendly.

Garstadt and the Schweinfurter Maineck

The Schweinfurt district is situated in the Lower Franconian Main triangle and is part of the extensive Franconian wine region. The area has been producing wine for centuries and is one of the most significant viticultural regions in Franconia. Garstadt itself is small but rich in winemaking tradition, with its first documented mention dating back to 1094.
