Twice a year, the Neuss city centre transforms into a giant flea market with over 300 vendors on Niederstraße, Oberstraße, Markt, Freithof, and Münsterplatz.
The Neuss city centre is a compact old town with historical substance: the 13th-century Romanesque Quirinus Minster, the Landestheater, the market square with its patrician houses, and the pedestrian zone Niederstraße/Oberstraße. This city centre is transformed into a large flea market twice a year – traditionally in May and September. From the Landestheater at the entrance of Oberstraße to Freithof by the Quirinus Minster, stall after stall lines up.
The City Flea Market is strictly focused on second-hand goods – making it particularly attractive for collectors and bargain hunters.
The market's appeal lies not only in its assortment but also in its atmosphere. Searching for old records on Münsterplatz next to the Romanesque Quirinus Minster or stopping at a stall with vintage porcelain on Freithof next to the theatre offers a flea market experience against a backdrop that elsewhere would lead to sightseeing. This is one of the hallmarks of the Neuss market – bric-a-brac between the theatre, Quirinus, and the Rhine view.
Neuss is located in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district on the left bank of the Rhine, directly opposite Düsseldorf. With around 155,000 inhabitants, Neuss is the tenth-largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and boasts a history spanning over 2,000 years as a former Roman garrison town. The Quirinus Minster, the Neusser Bürger-Schützenfest (the world's largest citizens' shooting festival), and the harbour shape the city's identity. The City Flea Market is one of the largest public events outside the Schützenfest cycle.
The 2026 season kicks off with the first flea market date on May 17 – postponed by one week from the originally planned May 10. The second date is on September 13. Both dates follow the same proven format: city-centre-wide stalls, strictly second-hand goods, organised by Neuss Marketing and Iven Märkte GmbH.
Free admission. Stall fees for vendors via Iven Märkte GmbH.
By train to Neuss Hauptbahnhof (main station) – a ten-minute walk to the city centre. By S-Bahn (suburban train) lines S8/S11 also to Neuss Hbf. By car via the A57 motorway (Neuss-Hafen exit) or the A52, then use the city centre car parks (Parkhaus Niederstraße, Quirinusstadion, Hafencenter).
11:00 AM–6:00 PM each day. Locations: Niederstraße, Oberstraße, Markt, Freithof, Münsterplatz, Konvent, Neustraße, and surrounding areas.
Admission is free.
Stall registrations via Iven Märkte GmbH in Grevenbroich (Tel. 02182 3697 or ivengmbh.de). Strictly second-hand goods only – new items are not permitted.
Arrive early (from 11 AM) for the best finds; late afternoon for negotiations with private vendors. Bring cash – not all stalls accept cards. If you're looking for a specific collecting area (postcards, records, porcelain), ask at the entrance about stall concentrations.
