Advent am Konvent – the Alternative Format

In the shadow of the large Quirinus Christmas Market, a second, distinctly different Advent format has established itself in Neuss: Advent am Konvent, curated by the Zukunftsinitiative Innenstadt Neuss (ZIN). Instead of classic mulled wine stands, the format focuses on changing individual stalls, food trucks, workshops, artists, and a consciously curated program.

Quartier Am Konvent as a Stage

The venue is the Quartier Am Konvent in Neuss city center – a historic quarter near the former Augustinian monastery (hence the name Konvent). With its winding alleys, historic buildings, and its central location, yet away from the main thoroughfares, the district is ideal for a more intimate Advent format.

Opening on November 15, 2026

The 2026 season kicks off on Sunday, November 15, 2026, from 10 AM to 8 PM with an opening program. The market will then run daily from 10 AM to 10 PM throughout the entire pre-Christmas period, typically extending into the beginning of the new year.

Changing Stalls and Curated Program

The special feature: The stalls change. Instead of fixed market booths like at a classic Christmas market, different vendors showcase their products each week – indie crafts, manufactories, fashion, art, jewelry, culinary specialties. Those who visit multiple times will discover something new each time.

Food Trucks and Culinary Delights

Instead of the classic Christmas market food stalls, the format features food trucks offering culinary diversity: street food classics, vegan options, creative fusion cuisine, local breweries, and manufactories. A different taste than the Quirinus Christmas Market – more modern, more urban.

Workshops and Art

Regular workshops for creative individuals of all ages – pottery, felting, Christmas wreath making, cookie baking for children, mixed media art, lettering. Artists from the Neuss and Düsseldorf scene exhibit their work and are often present at their stands.

Lighting Design as a Trademark

The Quartier Am Konvent is elaborately illuminated during the Advent season. Fairy lights, sculptures, and light installations shape the atmosphere. The market is also a light walk – especially worth seeing in the evening.

Family Sundays

On Advent Sundays, there are special family programs: children's workshops, storytelling sessions, pony rides (in previous years), cookie baking events. A conscious accentuation against the typically adult-oriented Christmas market.

ZIN – Zukunftsinitiative Innenstadt Neuss

The ZIN is an association of stakeholders from trade, gastronomy, culture, and city administration who are committed to revitalizing the city center. Advent am Konvent is one of ZIN's flagship projects – a consciously alternative format that enhances the city center beyond the major city marketing events.

Neuss as a Dual-Advent City

Visitors to Neuss during the pre-Christmas period can experience both formats: the classic Quirinus Christmas Market around the Quirinus Münster (Freithof, Münsterplatz) and the curated Advent am Konvent a few streets away. Both complement each other – traditional and modern, grand and intimate.
