About Blaues Band Schlei

The «Blaues Band der Schlei» is one of the traditional long-distance regattas on Northern Germany's inland waters. Organized by the Schlei-Segel-Club e.V., the course leads across the Schlei — the 42-kilometer-long Baltic Sea fjord that cuts deep into the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Sailors from the entire Schleswig-Holstein Sailing Association meet at the Schleswig harbor front to compete for the trophy in several boat classes. The regatta is part of the official regatta calendar of the Schleswig-Holstein Sailing Association.

Blaues Band Schlei — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Blaues Band der Schlei will take place on September 26 — as a one-day regatta on the classic Schleswig-Kappeln course, organized by the Schlei-Segel-Club e.V. The regatta is on the Schleswig-Holstein Sailing Association's regatta calendar and is open to members and guest sailors from the region.

On the last weekend of September, sailors will gather on the Schlei for the traditional Blaues Band. With late summer conditions — mostly moderate winds between Schleswig harbor and Mittelschlei — starts will take place in several classes. Race management is handled by the Schlei-Segel-Club.

Getting There

By car via the A7 (exit Schleswig/Jagel), by train to Schleswig Bahnhof, from there a 15-minute walk to the harbor. Parking spaces around the city harbor.

Participation

Registration for the regatta is handled by the Schlei-Segel-Club. Current notice of race and registration forms are available at schlei-segel-club.de and in the regatta calendar of the Schleswig-Holstein Sailing Association.

Spectators

Free admission. Best viewing points: Stadtfeld promenade, Möweninsel, Schlei bridge.

A Long-Distance Regatta on the Schlei

The Schlei is a special case among German waters: a long, narrow arm of the Baltic Sea fjord that stretches from Schleimünde to Schleswig and, with its bays, islands, and shallows, is one of Northern Germany's most challenging inland waters. Precisely these conditions make the Blaues Band der Schlei a special challenge — a mix of tactics, local knowledge, and endurance, where the weather also has to cooperate.

Schlei-Segel-Club e.V. as Organizer

The Schlei-Segel-Club, based in Schleswig, is one of the most traditional clubs in the Schleswig-Holstein Sailing Association. The club organizes the regatta annually and publishes the date on its club website as well as in the official regatta calendar of the Sailing Association. Members and guest sailors from the entire region are welcome.

Competition Format

The long-distance regatta is sailed in several boat classes simultaneously — typically dinghies and yachts of various sizes, scored according to the Yardstick rating. The course runs over several turning points on the Schlei and ends back at the pier of the Schlei-Segel-Club. The award ceremony with the presentation of the «Blaues Band» takes place in the clubhouse.

Schleswig is the district capital of the Schleswig-Flensburg district and looks back on over a thousand years of harbor history — from the Viking settlement of Haithabu to today's yacht harbor at Stadtfeld. Those who want to watch the regatta have the best view from the harbor front, Möweninsel, and the Schlei bridge.
