Large organic and regional market on the castle island of Schloss Gottorf
The Gottorfer Landmarkt takes place once a year in spring on the castle island of Schloss Gottorf in Schleswig – one of the oldest and most culturally significant castle ensembles in Northern Germany. The event is organized by the Stiftung Schleswig-Holsteinische Landesmuseen Schloss Gottorf in close cooperation with the association Feinheimisch e.V., which has been promoting regional food culture in Schleswig-Holstein since 2007 and currently has over 500 member businesses.
On the castle island, between the castle building and the Schlei riverbank, around a hundred stalls are lined up: direct marketers with cheese, meat, and poultry from marshland farms, organic farms with vegetables and herbs, beekeepers, bakers with farmhouse bread, brewers from the North, distillers, millers, fish smokehouses from Eckernförde and Maasholm. In addition, craftswomen from blacksmithing, pottery, basket weaving, and weaving, as well as a growing range of plant-based products.
The program goes beyond just shopping: sheepdog demonstrations with sheep flocks, live sheep shearing on site, horse demonstrations, an organic activity village for children, creative crafts, theater, and stage acts make it a full-fledged family outing. Thousands of visitors travel from all over Schleswig-Holstein and Danish Southern Jutland.
Schleswig is the district town of Schleswig-Flensburg – an old Viking town on the banks of the Schlei, with the famous Viking Museum Haithabu on the opposite bank. For centuries, Schloss Gottorf was the residence of the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf and today houses two of Schleswig-Holstein's largest museums: the State Museum of Art and Cultural History and the Archaeological State Museum. The Gottorfer Landmarkt is one of the most popular events in this ensemble and one of the central spring dates in the state's cultural calendar.
The 25th Gottorfer Landmarkt is officially announced for May 17, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the castle island. The date is listed in the event calendars of the Stiftung Schleswig-Holsteinische Landesmuseen, the Feinheimisch association, and the Viking town of Schleswig.
As in previous years, around a hundred stalls will be set up on the castle island: direct marketers, organic farms, craftspeople, and exhibitors of ecologically and sustainably produced goods from Schleswig-Holstein. Member businesses of Feinheimisch and their direct sales outlets will present their offerings – tasting, information, sales.
The accompanying program includes sheepdog demonstrations with live sheep flocks, live sheep shearing, an organic activity village on the castle meadow, a children's program with creative crafts, theater performances, and stage acts, as well as animal presentations. Specific show times and artists will be announced in advance by Feinheimisch and Schloss Gottorf.
