Traditional Pentecost sports and family festival in the Schwedt district of Schönow
Schönow is one of the districts of the city of Schwedt/Oder, incorporated in 1974 and located about 5 km west of the city center. Schwedt itself, with around 28,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the northern Uckermark and the cultural center of the Uckermark district — known for its PCK refinery (one of the most important refineries in East Germany) and its proximity to the Lower Oder Valley National Park. The village of Schönow has largely retained its rural structure and lives its identity through club life and village events.
The Pfingstsportfest Schönow is one of the oldest Pentecost traditions in the Schwedt region and is supported by the Schönower Sportverein e.V. The concept is classic and proven: the sports ground as an open stage, participatory activities in the morning, cultural program in the afternoon, big party in the evening. In 2026, the festival will take place on Whit Sunday, May 24, starting at 11 a.m. at the Friedrich-Baumgarten sports facility.
The festival runs all day and is aimed at all generations:
Admission is deliberately kept low: €5 for adults, children and students free. This clearly positions the Pfingstsportfest as an affordable family offer — a counterpoint to commercial events. On the festival grounds, there are stalls with food and drinks from the club's own stock and from Schwedt providers.
Schwedt can be reached via the A11 (Berlin–Szczecin), exit Pinnow, then B166 towards Schwedt. City buses run from Schwedt/Oder station (RE3 from Berlin) to Schönow. Free parking is available on the festival grounds.
The Pfingstsportfest Schönow 2026 will be held on Whit Sunday, May 24, 2026, starting at 11 a.m. by the Schönower Sportverein e.V. at the Friedrich-Baumgarten sports facility. The family and sports festival runs all day and doesn't end until after midnight.
The morning and early afternoon are characterized by participatory activities and performances: music, dance, circus acrobatics, and a dedicated children's program with a participatory circus, football activities, and bouncy castles. The musical highlight of the afternoon is the Helene Fischer Tribute Show at 3 p.m. In the evening, the Mega Party with DJ Basti starts at 8 p.m. — the traditional conclusion of the festival with dancing under the open sky.
Adults: €5. Children and students: free. Food and drinks can be purchased directly at the stalls.
