About Gastro-Mai-Le
Gastro-Mai-Le — edition 2026
The May festival in Schwedt 2026 combines two formats. In the afternoon, the Family Day takes place: a family day with a stage programme, carousel, games, and hands-on activities, organised by the Alliance for Family, the Multi-Generation House, and IK.event.
From 8 PM, the Gastro-Mai-Le begins: regional restaurateurs from Schwedt and the Uckermark present their specialities as street food. Live music and a DJ set extend the programme into the late evening.

May Festival, Uckermark Style
Schwedt/Oder is located in the north of the Uckermark, directly on the Polish border. With around 30,000 inhabitants, the city is the largest in the Uckermark district. The May festival on the eve of May 1st is a fixed date in the event calendar – for several years now combined with the Family Day and the Gastro-Mai-Le, a street food format.
Family Day – Afternoon
The Family Day marks the start. The Old Market becomes a stage for games, a carousel, craft activities, and a stage programme. The event is opened by the city's Mayor. Associations, schools, and the Multi-Generation House present themselves at stands – a self-representation of Schwedt's civil society in a summer format.
Gastro-Mai-Le – Evening
The Gastro-Mai-Le begins at 8 PM. Local restaurateurs from Schwedt and the Uckermark present their specialities as street food stands: from Mecklenburg wild boar and Uckermark potato pancakes to Polish cuisine from nearby Stettin. Live music and a DJ set extend the programme late into the night.
Organisers: Alliance for Family
The organiser is the Alliance for Family alliance in cooperation with the Multi-Generation House Schwedt and the agency IK.event. The alliance brings together family policy stakeholders from the city and uses the format to highlight family-friendliness.
Uckermark and Poland
Schwedt is located directly on the Polish border, opposite the town of Krajnik Dolny. Cross-border cooperation shapes the region and is also reflected in Gastro-Mai-Le and Family Day – Polish associations and producers are regularly represented. The state of Brandenburg shows its easternmost identity here: German-Polish, Uckermark, on the move.
