Schützenfest of the Hittbergen and surrounding area marksmen's association in Hohnstorf an der Elbe — in June
The Schützenverein Hittbergen und Umgebung e.V. is based in Hohnstorf an der Elbe — an association whose name refers to the region, but which is organisationally and socially anchored in Hohnstorf. Members come from Hohnstorf, Sassendorf, and Hittbergen, as well as other villages in the Samtgemeinde Scharnebeck. The association cultivates sport shooting with small-calibre rifles and air rifles, as well as social club life centred around the annual Schützenfest, which is the social highlight of the club's year.
The festival follows the North German marksmen's tradition: assembly of club members in uniform in the morning, king's shoot at the marksmen's stand, festive procession through Hohnstorf, proclamation of the new marksmen's king and queens, king's dinner, and dance evening in the festival tent. Friendly associations from the Samtgemeinde Scharnebeck and from Lauenburg on the other side of the Elbe participate in the festive procession.
Like all village marksmen's festivals in the region, the Schützenfest Hohnstorf is open to the entire village. Families will find a carousel, bouncy castle, children's entertainment, and small game stations. The 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) on the following day with bratwurst and brass music is a social meeting point for the village community.
Hohnstorf is located directly on the Elbe in the Samtgemeinde Scharnebeck — opposite Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein, to which it is connected by a bridge. Its riverside location shapes the character of the village with its small harbour, the Elbe Cycle Route, and its proximity to the floodplain landscape of the Lower Saxony Elbe River Biosphere Reserve. The Schützenfest is the social highlight of the club's year and, at the same time, an open Volksfest (public festival) for the village community.
As in previous years, club members, families, and guests from the surrounding villages of the Samtgemeinde Scharnebeck and from Lauenburg on the other side of the Elbe will gather. Assembly in uniform in the morning, king's shoot and cup competitions in the morning and afternoon, festive procession in the late afternoon, king's proclamation in the evening, and dance evening in the festival tent form the classic programme highlights.
The exact detailed programme for 2026 will be published by the marksmen's association in early summer. The structure follows the proven highlights:
