Royal Albert Hall in the Oderbruch — classical summer night in Schinkel Park
The Neuhardenberg Proms celebrate their premiere in 2026, writing a new chapter in the history of the Schinkel Palace in the Oderbruch region. The inspiration is the Last Night of the Proms at London's Royal Albert Hall: festive classical music, but relaxed, charmingly moderated, and under the open sky. You'll sit on the vast chestnut meadow of the palace park in the Märkisch-Oderland district and experience how the estate, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, becomes a resonant concert hall for a summer night.
The artistic magnet is Jan Vogler, one of the most sought-after cellists of his generation and founder of the renowned Moritzburg Festival. With him, the Moritzburg Festival Orchestra brings its high-caliber ensemble of soloists to Brandenburg. Conducting is Josep Caballé-Domenech, with violinist Mira Wang by his side. Actor Max Hopp — known for his pointed, heartfelt way of opening up classical music to a broad audience — will guide you through the evening.
For years, the palace with its vast park has been one of Brandenburg's most beautiful cultural destinations. The "Ins Freie!" series, within which the Proms take place, utilizes the natural acoustics of the estate between 200-year-old trees, the palace facade, and ponds. The chestnut meadow can accommodate several thousand visitors in a relaxed picnic atmosphere — with top-class classical music instead of marquee noise.
Neuhardenberg is located only about 70 km east of Berlin and is reachable by car via the B1 in about an hour. The Märkisch-Oderland region is scenically impressive: vast fields, the Oderbruch Canal, quaint villages. Those who arrive earlier on the concert day can explore the English landscape garden by Peter Joseph Lenné or visit the reconstructed Schinkel Church. Afterwards, summer classics under the starry sky — that's an evening you'll remember for a long time.
On July 4, 2026, at 7 PM, the Schloss Neuhardenberg Foundation is expanding its successful "Ins Freie!" (Into the Open!) open-air series with a British-inspired Proms format. The chestnut meadow in the palace park will become an open-air concert hall for one evening.
Soloist Jan Vogler co-founded the Moritzburg Festival in 1993, developing it into one of Europe's leading chamber music festivals. With the Moritzburg Festival Orchestra, formed from festival artists, he travels to Neuhardenberg for the first time. The Spanish conductor Josep Caballé-Domenech, who also leads the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, will conduct. Violinist Mira Wang completes the team of soloists.
Actor Max Hopp, known to German audiences as a voice actor and stage performer, will guide the program with British humor, creating the typical Proms atmosphere between classical enjoyment and communal sing-alongs.
The exact program will be published by the Schloss Neuhardenberg Foundation in the weeks leading up to the concert on schlossneuhardenberg.de. Expect summer classical favorites, festive solo pieces for cello and violin, and pieces in the spirit of the Last Night of the Proms.
