Three Weeks of Open-Air Concerts on the Chestnut Meadow — June 20 to July 9, 2026, from Bujazzo to Andreas Vollenweider
When the Schloss Neuhardenberg Foundation opens its chestnut meadow in the summer, one of Brandenburg's most peculiar and beautiful open-air festivals begins. "Ins Freie!" is not a conventional festival — it is a curated series of ten concerts and events taking place between June 20 and July 9, 2026. In the shade of old chestnut trees, against the classical backdrop of the castle redesigned by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, jazz, pop, classical, world music, and singer-songwriter artistry meet.
Opening on June 20: "Cinema Meets Culinary: Ramen everywhere" — a film and gourmet evening starting at 5:30 PM. On June 21, the Bundesjazzorchester Bujazzo opens the concert series with "Thank you, Peter!" under the direction of Jörn Marcussen-Wulff (7:00 PM). This is followed by the French-American soul-jazz singer China Moses with her program "It's Complicated" (June 23, 8:00 PM). The 7th Singer Meeting on June 27 (3:00 PM) brings together Klaus Hoffmann, Atrin Madani, Viktoria Tolstoy & Jacob Karlzon, and Ulla Meinecke under the motto "Songs, Singers, and Poets." On June 28, 2raumwohnung — Inga Humpe and Tommi Eckart — will be guests (7:00 PM).
At the beginning of July, it gets literary and classical: Dagmar Manzel & the Salonorchester Unter'n Linden present "An den Zaubermond" on July 2 (8:00 PM). On July 3, an African hour follows: Orchestra Baobab from Senegal with "Made in Sénégal" (8:00 PM) — one of the most important bands in African music history, active since 1970. The highlight: the Neuhardenberg Proms on July 4 with the Moritzburg Festival Orchestra under Josep Caballé-Domenech and soloists Jan Vogler (cello) and Mira Wang (violin) — 7:00 PM, a summer classical night in the tradition of the London Proms. The finale features Israeli singer Noa with "The Giver" and pianist Ruslan Sirota on July 5 (7:00 PM) and Swiss harp pioneer Andreas Vollenweider & Friends with "CAVERNA MAGICA – revisited" on July 9 (8:00 PM).
Schloss Neuhardenberg in the Oderbruch region (Märkisch-Oderland district) is a remarkable ensemble: a country palace built between 1764 and 1768, which was redesigned in a neoclassical style by Prussian architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel in 1820. The Schloss Neuhardenberg Foundation now operates the castle and park as a cultural center with a hotel, restaurant, and year-round event program. The chestnut meadow — a wide expanse of lawn framed by old chestnut trees — is the natural stage for the summer program.
