Demonstration and queer street festival in the Huguenot city — Erlangen Pride for visibility and solidarity
Erlangen — a university city, Huguenot city, home of Siemens Healthineers — has a young but self-confident queer community. Christopher Street Day Erlangen, organized by the association Make Your Town Queer e.V., is now a firm fixture in the Franconian CSD calendar. The seventh edition will take place in 2026.
The format follows the classic CSD concept of the West German Pride movement: a demonstration winds through the city center — with floats, walking groups, drums, whistles, and creative banners. A political rally takes place at the endpoint, with speeches by queer activists, local politicians, and members of the Bundestag. Afterwards, the street festival at Schlossplatz takes over: information booths of queer associations, catering, and a stage program with music and performances.
The motto for 2026 is "loud.strong.queer." — a programmatic condensation of the association's three main demands: constitutional protection for queer people by expanding Article 3 of the Basic Law, permanent funding for queer counseling centers and community centers, and concrete measures against hate speech and hate crime. The motto runs through the entire event — from the demo banners to the statements of the stage acts.
Erlangen, with around 117,000 inhabitants, is located in the Nuremberg-Fürth-Erlangen metropolitan area in Middle Franconia. As the location of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU), an industrial site, and a Huguenot city with a liberal tradition, the city is almost a natural home for queer-political engagement. However, the CSD also sees itself as an anchor for the queer community in rural Middle Franconia — participants come from Höchstadt, Herzogenaurach, Forchheim, and Neustadt an der Aisch.
In previous years, several thousand people participated in the demonstration march and the subsequent festival. In summer weather, Schlossplatz becomes a colorful stage, with beer tables, pavilions of queer associations, food trucks, and a mixed audience of demo activists, Erlangen families, and tourists.
The 2026 edition is confirmed for September 19, 2026, via the official website of the association Make Your Town Queer e.V. (makeyourtownqueer.de/csd-erlangen). This is the seventh edition of CSD Erlangen.
Updated program details (demonstration route, start time of the demonstration, lineup of the stage program at Schlossplatz, speeches at the rally) will be published in the weeks leading up to the event on the association's website and social media channels. Associations and initiatives can register for walking groups or information booths via the form on the association's website.
The finalized timetable and stage lineup will be announced on makeyourtownqueer.de/csd-erlangen and the association's social media channels.
Erlangen is located on the A 73 (Erlangen-Mitte or Erlangen-Süd exit) and is accessible by ICE/IC — Erlangen main station is a long-distance stop. All CSD activities take place in the city center around Schlossplatz, Hauptstraße, and Theaterplatz — within walking distance of the main station.
The demonstration, rally, and street festival at Schlossplatz are free of charge. Funding comes from donations, booth fees, memberships, and sponsors.
Associations and organizations can register for walking groups or information booths via Microsoft Forms on the association's website. An open planning meeting typically takes place in May at the Queer Center Erlangen — all interested parties are welcome.
Donations to Make Your Town Queer e.V. support the CSD and the associated Queer Center in their ongoing operations.
