About Klosterhofspiele

For over 40 years, the Klosterhofspiele Langenzenn have been a fixture in the Middle Franconian theatre scene. The volunteer ensemble (locally known as "Klostermäuse") stages at least one play every summer in the historic Klosterhof Langenzenn—usually a family play or a children's theatre adaptation, followed by a production for adults in the autumn. With thousands of spectators per season, the Klosterhofspiele Langenzenn e.V. is among the most frequently performed amateur theatres in the greater Nuremberg-Fürth area.

Four Decades of Theatre in the Monastery

The Klosterhof Langenzenn has been the venue for Klosterhofspiele Langenzenn e.V. since 1985, a volunteer theatre group composed of multiple generations of Langenzenn theatre enthusiasts. Over the decades, the ensemble ("Klostermäuse") has developed a distinctive style: accessible themes, high-quality direction, costumes from their own workshop, and stage design that naturally incorporates the historic courtyard as a backdrop.

Langenzenn — Monastery Town in the Zenngrund

Langenzenn is located in the Middle Franconian district of Fürth (Bavaria), about 20 km west of Nuremberg. The former Augustinian canonry in the historic town centre is its defining landmark—a complex of church, cloister building, and monastery courtyard, which has served as an evangelical parish community centre since the Reformation. The Klosterhof itself is a square courtyard with arcades, used as an open-air theatre every summer.

What's on Offer

  • Summer Production: Usually a family play or children's theatre piece, with several performances spread throughout July
  • Autumn Production: A play for adults at the Kulturhof Langenzenn
  • Open-Air Atmosphere: Klosterhof with a historic backdrop; in case of rain, performances may be moved or rescheduled
  • Family-Friendly: Ticket prices starting at €12 are deliberately kept low
  • Costumes and Stage Design: Created in the "Klostermäuse's" own workshop

2026 — Season in Transition

Due to renovations at the classic venue, the ensemble had to relocate for 2026. The summer production will be performed at the Klosterhof on Prinzregentenplatz 1, and the autumn production will take place at the Kulturhof Langenzenn (main hall). The diversity of the programme remains unchanged.
