About Nebelhorn Trophy
Nebelhorn Trophy — edition 2026
The 58th edition of the Nebelhorn Trophy is one of the key tournaments of the 2026 Olympic season. Many athletes use Oberstdorf to showcase their new programs to international judges for the first time – and to secure important world ranking points for the 2027 World Championships in Tampere.
Over the four competition days, the scores for the Fritz Geiger Memorial Trophy, a team competition for nations, will be determined. The event concludes on Saturday, September 27th, with the popular gala performance, where the highlights of the Trophy are repeated in a show without competitive pressure.

More than 50 years of figure skating in Oberstdorf
The Nebelhorn Trophy is one of the oldest and most renowned international figure skating tournaments worldwide. The competition has been held annually at the Oberstdorf Ice Sports Centre since 1969, at the foot of the Nebelhorn mountain in the Allgäu Alps. Past participants of the Trophy include Olympic medalists such as Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot, or the Russian Olympic champion Alina Zagitova – Oberstdorf has been a training and competition centre for international figure skating for decades.
Part of the ISU Challenger Series
The Nebelhorn Trophy is part of the prestigious ISU Challenger Series, where athletes collect world ranking points for the 2027 World Championships in Tampere. In 2026, the Trophy also serves as a qualifying competition for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Games – many figure skaters use Oberstdorf to showcase their new programs to an international audience for the first time.
Four Olympic Disciplines
Four disciplines are contested in the competition:
- Ladies (Singles)
- Men (Singles)
- Pairs
- Ice Dance
A special feature is the Fritz Geiger Memorial Trophy – a team competition where nations are awarded based on the placements of their athletes across all disciplines. The gala on Saturday evening after the competitions traditionally brings together the highlights of the Trophy – a show format with programs outside of the competitive pressure.
Oberstdorf – Home of Figure Skating
Oberstdorf, located at Germany's southernmost point, is one of the most important winter sports communities in the Alps. Ski jumping, figure skating, ice hockey, and mountain sports are part of the annual event calendar. The Oberstdorf Ice Sports Centre features Olympic-standard ice rinks and is home to numerous international top coaches.
The History of the Trophy
The trophy is named after the 2,224 m high Nebelhorn, which forms the backdrop for Oberstdorf. The Nebelhorn Trophy first took place in 1969 – and has been an integral part of the international figure skating calendar ever since. Over the decades, it has developed into one of the most important pre-season competitions – and several Olympic champions have made the leap from Oberstdorf to the Olympics.
