Classical Music Against an Alpine Backdrop
The Oberstdorfer Musiksommer is one of the renowned classical festivals in southern Germany. It originated from the idea of founder Peter Buck, who returned from a mountain hike with the proposal to organize a summer of music with concerts and masterclasses in Oberstdorf. Since then, the festival has shaped the summer in Germany's southernmost market town.
Programmes Balancing Tradition and Innovation
The programme combines tradition and innovation: two orchestral concerts, outstanding chamber music ensembles, jazz, and the final concerts of the masterclasses are on the schedule. Renowned orchestras and ensembles perform, as do emerging young talents. A special hallmark are the mountain concerts, where music and the alpine landscape form a unique connection.
International Masterclasses
Parallel to the concert programme, international masterclasses take place, where young musicians from all over the world are taught by renowned professors. They present their results in final concerts – a vibrant contribution to fostering young talent.
Festival with Radiance
With around 4,000 visitors per season, the Oberstdorfer Musiksommer is a cultural highlight of the Allgäu summer and an attraction for classical music lovers from home and abroad.
