The experience festival of photography in Germany's highest market town
Fotogipfel Oberstdorf takes place in Oberstdorf, Germany's southernmost market town in the Oberallgäu district of Swabia in southern Bavaria. The "experience festival of photography" uses the spectacular mountain scenery as its stage, presenting exhibitions in unusual locations, from the town center all the way up to the summit station of the Nebelhorn at an altitude of 2,224 meters.
The diverse program includes major exhibitions, photography workshops for all experience levels, photo talks, opening receptions, guided exhibition tours, a photo bivouac, and a print workshop with various providers. Renowned photographers and associations such as the Leica Academy, the DVF, and the GDT are regularly represented.
The festival aims to "connect people through photography – across generations, cultures, and worlds of experience." Each edition is dedicated to its own theme, artistically accompanied by a patron.
With its combination of high-caliber exhibitions, learning and experience opportunities, and its unique alpine location, Fotogipfel Oberstdorf has established itself as a firm fixture in the photography scene's calendar, attracting photography enthusiasts from all over the German-speaking world to the Oberallgäu region every year.
For 2026, the 14th edition of Fotogipfel Oberstdorf is confirmed from June 17 to 21. The festival's theme is "Adventure"; the patron is the internationally renowned documentary and science photographer Esther Horvath.
A highlight is the central exhibition "Adventure – In the Heart of the Ice" by Esther Horvath at the Nebelhorn summit station at 2,224 meters. In addition, Ulla Lohmann, the Leica Academy, the DVF, the GDT, and Alexander Fuchs, among others, will showcase their work. The program includes interactive activities, a photo bivouac, a print workshop, opening receptions, expert talks, and guided exhibition tours.
