Photography in the Allgäu Alps
Fotogipfel Oberstdorf takes place in Oberstdorf, Germany's southernmost market town in the Oberallgäu district of Swabia in southern Bavaria. The "experience festival of photography" uses the spectacular mountain scenery as its stage, presenting exhibitions in unusual locations, from the town center all the way up to the summit station of the Nebelhorn at an altitude of 2,224 meters.
Program
The diverse program includes major exhibitions, photography workshops for all experience levels, photo talks, opening receptions, guided exhibition tours, a photo bivouac, and a print workshop with various providers. Renowned photographers and associations such as the Leica Academy, the DVF, and the GDT are regularly represented.
Philosophy
The festival aims to "connect people through photography – across generations, cultures, and worlds of experience." Each edition is dedicated to its own theme, artistically accompanied by a patron.
Significance
With its combination of high-caliber exhibitions, learning and experience opportunities, and its unique alpine location, Fotogipfel Oberstdorf has established itself as a firm fixture in the photography scene's calendar, attracting photography enthusiasts from all over the German-speaking world to the Oberallgäu region every year.
