From 6 PM to midnight, they invite you to taste Franconian top wines in a unique atmosphere: from the Bürgerspital's winterly decorated courtyard with mulled wine and bratwurst to the 450-year tradition of Juliusspital, the second-largest winery in Germany. Four Top Wineries, One Night

The Night of the Open Wine Cellars in Würzburg is a highlight in the Franconian wine calendar. On one evening, the city's four major VDP predicate wineries open their cellars together: Weingut Bürgerspital, Weingut Juliusspital, Staatlicher Hofkeller, and Weingut am Stein. Visitors can move from one estate to the next and experience the diversity of Würzburg wine in one evening.

Tradition and Atmosphere

Each estate offers its own ambiance: Bürgerspital creates a festive mood in its winterly decorated courtyard with homemade mulled wine, punch, and Franconian bratwurst. Juliusspital – the largest winery in the city and the second-largest in Germany with 180 hectares of vineyards – presents 450 years of tradition. At Weingut am Stein, visitors can tour the wine cellar.

Schedule and Logistics

The wine cellars open at 6:00 PM and close at 12:00 AM. Shuttle buses connect the city-center estates with Weingut am Stein, located slightly outside the center – for €2.50 per person for the entire evening. VIP tickets for Staatlicher Hofkeller will be available from September 1, 2026: 300 tickets at €15 each, including a welcome glass.

Würzburg – Franconian Wine Capital

Würzburg is an independent city in the Bavarian administrative region of Lower Franconia and is considered the capital of Franconian wine. The historic wineries, many of them charitable foundations with centuries of tradition, shape the identity of the city on the Main River. The Night of the Open Wine Cellars makes this heritage tangible in a single evening.
