Barnim Panorama — Nature Park Meets Agricultural Museum

The Barnim Panorama in Wandlitz is an unusual dual institution: the nature park centre of the Barnim Nature Park and the Agricultural Museum under one roof. The building — an architecturally striking wooden structure — opened in 2013 and showcases, on one hand, the natural landscapes of the Barnim (forests, lakes, Schorfheide), and on the other, the region's agricultural history — old tractors, horse-drawn carts, farming implements, farm kitchens. Wandlitz itself, a large municipality with almost 25,000 inhabitants on the northern outskirts of Berlin, has gone down in history as a place of residence for GDR political elite — today it is a vibrant excursion destination with Wandlitzer See, Liepnitzsee, and the Nature Park right on its doorstep.

International Museum Day — Tradition and Occasion

International Museum Day is celebrated annually on the third Sunday in May — a tradition initiated by ICOM (International Council of Museums), with over 30,000 museums worldwide participating. The Barnim Panorama uses this day every year for a large family festival that extends the museum's themes beyond the permanent exhibitions: hands-on activities, tastings, demonstrations of historic agricultural machinery.

Program — Market, Machines, Music

The museum festival runs from 11 AM to 5 PM. The program includes: a regional marketplace with producers from the Barnim — farm dairies, bakeries, honey, Spreewald specialties, beer; a show of historic tractors and agricultural machinery, some in working order; live music on a small stage with regional bands or folk musicians; culinary delights made from regional ingredients — bratwurst, pea soup, cake, ice cream. Plus children's activities — farm animal play area, clay workshop, petting zoo. The exact stage program and any special guided tours will be published by Barnim Panorama on their website a few weeks before the event.

Getting There and Staying

Wandlitz is accessible via the Heidekrautbahn (NEB line) from Berlin-Karow or by S-Bahn line S 2 to Berlin-Buch with a connecting bus — approximately 1 hour total travel time from Berlin Hauptbahnhof. The Barnim Panorama is centrally located in Wandlitz, within walking distance of the train station. By car: B 109 or B 273 north of Berlin, then towards Wandlitz. A perfect family Sunday — museum in the morning, market and picnic at midday, swimming in Wandlitzer See in the afternoon. One of the most beautiful Brandenburg family programs in spring May.
