Mosbach — Half-timbered gem in the Neckar-Odenwald

Mosbach is a town with around 24,000 inhabitants in the Neckar-Odenwald district (state of Baden-Württemberg) and the seat of the district administration. The old town is one of the most beautiful preserved half-timbered old towns in Southern Germany — with the famous Palm House from 1610, the old town hall, the collegiate church, and a market square that looks like a film set. Mosbach is located at the transition between the Neckar valley and the Odenwald forest, on the tourist route Burgenstraße and the pilgrimage route Neckarsteig.

The Festival as Part of the Mosbacher Sommer

The Mosbacher Sommer is an open-air event series by the city of Mosbach from July to early September — with concerts, theater performances, family programs, and cultural offerings at various locations in the old town. The highlight of the series is the International Street Theater Festival, which transforms the city into an open theater stage for one day on a Sunday in August.

Theater, Music, Acrobatics in All Alleys

On this day, international street artists perform simultaneously in several squares — the market square, Stiftshof, the inner courtyard of the Palm House, Hauptstraße, Untere and Obere Gasse —:

• Street Theater — visual and silent theater forms, often with historical or absurd themes
• Acrobatics and circus arts — juggling, contortionist, fire shows
• Live Music — from acoustic sets to walking acts with marching formations
• Performance Art — participatory formats, statue acts, interactions
• Children's programs and family formats

The festival is free to enter — you wander through the old town and encounter a different act at every corner. Those who want to support the festival can buy the solidarity button for 5 EUR. The proceeds go to the artists' fees and the event costs of the Mosbacher Sommer.

Atmosphere in the Half-timbered Setting

The unique backdrop makes the festival special: experiencing a performance in the market square in front of the Palm House feels like being in a movie scene. The narrow half-timbered alleys act as natural stages, and the inner courtyards as theater boxes. This makes Mosbach's International Street Theater one of the most atmospheric street theater festivals in Southern Germany.
