Twelve days of open-air cinema under the stars in the Großer Elzpark — the cultural highlight of the Mosbacher Sommer
The Open Air Cinema is one of the central pillars of the Mosbacher Sommer — a multi-week cultural program with which the city of Mosbach in the Neckar-Odenwald district combines live concerts, open-air theater, and open-air cinema every summer. The two-week cinema series transforms the Großer Elzpark into a film garden with a large screen, sound system, and seating under the open sky.
The program mixes current film highlights from the previous cinema season, audience favorites, occasional independent films, and selected classics. The setting is relaxed: you sit on provided chairs or blankets on the lawn, enjoy a balmy summer evening, with snacks and drinks available on site. The atmosphere is fundamentally different from a multiplex — watching films in the park, with birdsong and twilight effects during the film break.
The Mosbacher Sommer has existed since the 1990s as the city's central cultural format. In addition to the Open Air Cinema, it includes well-known concert highlights (in past years, among others, The BossHoss), the Festival of Lights in the city garden, and international street theater. The Open Air Cinema is the longest continuous strand, offering a program for twelve evenings in a row.
Mosbach is the district capital of the Neckar-Odenwald district and surprises with one of the most beautiful half-timbered ensembles in Southwest Germany — the market square with the Palm House is one of the most photographed buildings in the region. The Open Air Cinema in the Großer Elzpark — a few minutes' walk from the market square — combines an afternoon stroll through the city with a cultural evening in the late summer.
In 2026, the Großer Elzpark will once again transform into an open-air film garden. The program runs for over twelve consecutive evenings — as always with a mix of current audience hits, independent films, and occasional classics. The detailed film program is traditionally announced in July on mosbach.de and in the local press.
The Open Air Cinema is one of the central strands of the Mosbacher Sommer 2026 and thus part of the city's multi-week cultural program with concerts, theater, and the Festival of Lights.
