Medieval market in the Arminiuspark β crafts, jugglers, fire art, and camp life
Bad Lippspringe, with just under 17,000 inhabitants in the Paderborn district of North Rhine-Westphalia, is a state-recognized Kneipp and health spa. Famous for its healing springs from the Eggegebirge mountains and its mild, invigorating climate, the town has created a special park for itself: the Arminiuspark β an extensive area with a lagoon, old oak trees, winding paths, and large meadows. In 2017, the State Garden Show was held here, significantly upgrading the park's infrastructure. This very park serves as the backdrop for the medieval market.
The medieval market is structured as a three-part experience. In the trading area, there are historical stalls selling leather goods, jewelry, toys, medieval clothing, mead, spiced beer, and culinary specialties β suckling pig, vegetarian medieval dishes, bread from a wood-fired oven. In the camp area, knights, travelers, and craftspeople have set up their historical tents and demonstrate everyday medieval life: blacksmithing, cooking over an open fire, wool spinning, parchment making, mock combat. On the market stage, medieval music bands perform; in the past, Leonea, among others, has performed here.
The highlight of the weekend is the fire show on Saturday evening at 10:00 PM: acrobatic stunts, fire eaters, pyrotechnics, dancing with burning ribbons and props. The show takes place in front of the lagoon β the wide water surface reflects the flames. It is one of the most beautiful moments of the East Westphalian event autumn.
On Sunday, shops in the Bad Lippspringe city center will be open from 1 PM to 6 PM for Sunday shopping. A free shuttle bus service runs between the parking lots and the city center, allowing visitors to easily combine the medieval market and a stroll through town. The event is organized by the town of Bad Lippspringe.
With the medieval market, Bad Lippspringe pursues a clear tourism strategy: events that use the Arminiuspark as a meeting space add an experience-oriented accent to the spa town's profile. Those coming for spa treatments can visit the medieval market on the weekend; those arriving for the market get to know the health spa infrastructure. Bad Lippspringe is conveniently located on the A33 motorway between Paderborn and Bielefeld β making it one of the most easily accessible event locations in East Westphalia-Lippe.
