British themed weekend in the show gardens with Highland Games, classic cars and live music
Since the 2017 State Garden Show, the Bad Lippspringe Show Gardens have established themselves as an event location that goes far beyond the classic park experience. The British Weekend is one of the formats with which the show gardens position themselves beyond pure botany: a concentrated themed weekend that uses the backdrop of the linden park, rose garden, and forest gardens as a stage — and brings the British way of life to the Lippische Land region.
A core element of the weekend is the Highland Games: disciplines from the traditional Scottish sport, from tossing the caber to stone putting and tug-of-war. The competitions take place on a meadow area in the park, spectators line the course, and at the edge, men in kilts demonstrate that tradition and sport are a powerful mix. Those who wish can try their hand at some stations themselves.
The classic car exhibition brings together British classics — from the iconic Mini to the Jaguar E-Type, MG, Triumph, and Morgan, to the stately Bentley. Vehicle owners can apply in advance as exhibitors (registration form on the show gardens website). A point of attraction for fans of British automotive engineering with plenty to discuss: Where else can you hear Jaguar restorers discussing the correct leather care over a cup of hop tea?
Bands with British repertoire will play on stage — from folk and Celtic to rock and pop. The program changes over the course of the two days; the exact schedule will be published shortly before the weekend. In the evening, a Pub Quiz beckons with questions about British culture, music, history, and sports — teams can form on-site or register in advance. The quiz winners typically receive a prize in the British style.
Culinary, the weekend revolves around British classics: Fish & Chips, Cream Tea with scones, clotted cream, and strawberry jam, Shepherd's Pie, Sticky Toffee Pudding. Catering stands will offer the specialties freshly prepared, beer lovers will find British ale on tap, and real Earl Grey tea is also part of the standard repertoire. Admission to the show gardens is valid for the entire British Weekend; the catering offer is paid for separately.
Bad Lippspringe is a spa town and health resort in the Paderborn district with a long spa tradition and about 16,000 inhabitants. The Lippe spring originates in the middle of the town — a historical highlight for walks. The British Weekend attracts an audience from the entire Paderborn district (Paderborn, Salzkotten, Bad Wünnenberg, Delbrück) as well as from Lippe and the Hochstift Paderborn. Day tourists from the Ruhr area and Lower Saxony also combine the weekend with a visit to the show gardens.
After successful starts in 2024 and 2025, the British Weekend 2026 is the third edition. The proven concept: a themed weekend that combines the show gardens' backdrop with British folklore, sporting events, and culinary delights. Saturday is the main day for Highland Games with competitions in the morning and afternoon; Sunday is more focused on the classic car exhibition and a relaxed pub atmosphere.
The full lineup — both bands and classic cars — will be published in the weeks leading up to the weekend on gartenschau-badlippspringe.de.
