Medieval festival and Walpurgis Court on Corpus Christi in the Schweinfurt district of Oberndorf
As early as 1437, the council of the Free Imperial City of Schweinfurt acquired the village of Obernrheinfeld from its former lords. Once a year, after Walpurgis Night (May 1st), a village court met there – the so-called Walpurgis Court. This historical tradition lives on today as a medieval festival: on Corpus Christi Day, the idyllic Pfisterpark in the Schweinfurt district of Oberndorf transforms into a medieval stage.
The festival traditionally begins with a medieval procession through Oberndorf, leading the court lords, citizens, maids, and minstrels to the festival grounds. In the Pfisterpark, the reenacted trial of the Walpurgis Court then follows before a large audience – a theatrical performance that brings historical documents and anecdotes to life.
The events are accompanied by a medieval market with stalls for crafts, jewelry, leather goods, and artisanal products. Minstrels, jugglers, and musicians provide entertainment, and medieval groups set up their camps. Medieval food and drink are served on the festival grounds – mead, beer, stick bread, suckling pig, pork knuckle, and more.
The organizer is the Bürger- und Kulturverein Oberndorf (BKVO), an active association that shapes the local life of Oberndorf. The Walpurgis Court is one of its central projects and underscores the identity of the Schweinfurt district – as a historical place with its own cultural history within the industrial city of Schweinfurt.
Oberndorf is located on the southern bank of the Main River, opposite Schweinfurt's old town. The district has its own history dating back to the Middle Ages and maintains its own identity with the Walpurgis Court and other events – within a city primarily known today as an industrial center (bearings, automotive suppliers).
The 2026 edition of the Oberndorfer Walpurgisgericht will take place on Thursday, June 4, 2026 (Corpus Christi), in the idyllic Pfisterpark in the Schweinfurt district of Oberndorf. The organizer is the Bürger- und Kulturverein Oberndorf (BKVO).
The day begins with a medieval procession through Oberndorf, followed by the reenacted court hearing in the park. Throughout the day, market stalls, music and minstrel performances, medieval camps, and catering stands will be featured. Families, medieval enthusiasts, and local residents will spend a full day of festivities in a historically staged setting.
Exact daily schedule to be published by the BKVO and the City of Schweinfurt.
Free admission or small contribution. Food, drinks, and market goods are paid for on-site, usually in cash.

Admission to the Pfisterpark is usually free or a small contribution. Stalls, food, and drinks are paid for on-site (mostly cash).
The festival day is Corpus Christi (a public holiday in Bavaria). In 2026, Corpus Christi falls on June 4th. The exact daily schedule with the start of the procession, court hearing, concerts, and market opening hours will be communicated by the BKVO.
Costumes are welcome among visitors but not mandatory. Families will find enough space in the park for breaks, child-friendly areas, and picnic spots.
