Music, Engagement, and Youth Culture

Since 2016, the TonLaage Festival has been the most important youth music festival in the small town of Laage. The focus is on diversity, music, and community – a creative space for young people against racism and exclusion. The festival is organized by the Christophorus Church community of Laage together with the Kreativer Jugendtreff (Creative Youth Meeting Point) and many volunteers.

Workshops

During the day, the festival offers workshops for vocals, guitar/bass, keyboard/piano, and percussion/drums. In addition, there are technical workshops on camera work, sound technology, and lighting technology – many young people actively shape the festival, not just as an audience.

Concert Evening

The highlight is the concert evening with several bands, regularly supplemented by a "Secret Headliner" who is only revealed shortly before their performance. Throughout its history, the festival has regularly featured nationally known acts.

Local Context

Laage is located in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, south of Rostock, near the regional airport of the same name. The TonLaage Festival is a prime example of how rural small towns can create their own cultural formats through volunteer work, which resonate far beyond the region.
