150 Years Volunteer Fire Brigade
The Volunteer Fire Brigade Liessow was founded in 1876 — today it is one of the four local brigades of the town of Laage in the Rostock district. The 150th anniversary in 2026 will be celebrated with a large day festival that brings together the entire village community and guests from surrounding areas.
Program
The day starts at 9:00 AM with the traditional 'Nass' (wet) firefighting competition, where brigades from the region compete against each other. At 1:00 PM, a vehicle parade of historical and current emergency vehicles will follow through the village. From 1:30 PM, technical demonstrations, public drills, a fire brigade fashion show, and many other program items will alternate. In the evening, the festival tent will host music and dancing.
Children's and Family Program
The day's program includes hands-on activities for children, a historical exhibition on the brigade's history since 1876, and catering with North German specialties.
Local Context
Liessow is a district of the town of Laage. Laage is located in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and is known not only for the regional airport Rostock-Laage but especially for its active club and fire brigade scene — the commitment of the volunteer brigades shapes the village communities of rural Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to this day.

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the Volunteer Fire Brigade Liessow celebrates its 150th anniversary from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
