Three days of historical market life on the Kloster Fürstenfeld grounds
Just a few kilometers west of Munich lies one of Bavaria's most significant monastery ensembles, the former Zisterzienserkloster Fürstenfeld. The imposing Klosterkirche St. Mariä Himmelfahrt and the surrounding buildings form the backdrop for the Mittelaltermarkt Kloster Fürstenfeld, which attracts thousands of visitors every August.
For three days, the monastery square transforms into a market street with numerous stalls: toy makers, blacksmiths, glassblowers, jewelers, leatherworkers, and fabric weavers demonstrate their skills live. Bakeries, smokehouses, and taverns offer food and drinks reminiscent of the Middle Ages. Jugglers, musicians, and camp groups provide the theatrical flair of the market.
The organizer is Turbaevents, a Bavarian event agency specializing in historical markets. Camp groups set up their tents on the monastery grounds, living in period costume over the weekend and demonstrating medieval camp life – from the blacksmith at the anvil to the cook over an open fire.
Fürstenfeldbruck is an independent town about 25 kilometers west of Munich, located on the A96 motorway. With its monastery grounds, the Amper river, and a lively town center, it is a popular destination for many people from Munich. The medieval market is part of the monastery's event calendar, which also includes concerts, craft markets, and the annual Leonhardiritt (St. Leonard's Ride).
The medieval market appeals equally to history enthusiasts, families, and fans of medieval markets. Children experience for the first time how iron is forged, glass is blown, or bread is baked in a wood-fired oven. Adults will find craftsmanship, culinary specialties, and a musical ambiance. Those in costume are welcome – it is not mandatory.
The 2026 edition of the medieval market runs from Friday, August 21st (from 5:00 PM) through Saturday, August 22nd (from 11:00 AM) to Sunday, August 23rd, 2026 (until 7:00 PM). The organizer is Turbaevents.
