„Festival of Diversity“ — three days in the alleys of the historic Tauber town
The Wertheim Old Town Festival is one of the fixed summer highlights in the Main-Tauber district. On the last weekend of July — Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26, 2026 — the medieval alleys and squares of Wertheim's old town to the right of the Tauber will transform into a three-day festival zone. The motto „Festival of Diversity“ sets the direction: music for every taste, culinary diversity from Swabian-Franconian classics to international specialties, and an integrated beer festival within the Old Town Festival.
Throughout the festival weekend, live music will be playing on various stages in the alleys and squares — rock, pop, Schlager, folk, brass band music, and jazz will alternate. Local bands from the Main-Tauber district will meet acts from neighboring Bavaria (Franconia) and the wider region. The atmosphere will range from a Volksfest (popular festival) vibe in the wide alleys to intimate concerts in the small squares.
A special program component is the integrated „Festival of Beers“ — a selection of regional and supra-regional breweries will present their beers at several stands. In addition, Wertheim restaurateurs and clubs will serve culinary diversity: Franconian classics (Schäufele, Bratwürste), Swabian specialties (Maultaschen), Mediterranean cuisine, Asian street food stalls, and vegetarian-vegan alternatives. For fire safety reasons in the historic old town, only mobile, easily dismantled stalls up to 3 meters deep are permitted — which authentically preserves the market stall character.
Wertheim is a town of 21,000 inhabitants in the Main-Tauber district in the northeast of Baden-Württemberg, at the confluence of the Tauber into the Main. The town is thus located in one of the most attractive river landscapes in southern Germany — the Main forms the border between Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria here. The historic old town with its half-timbered houses, Wertheim Castle as a striking landmark above the town, and its intact medieval layout is one of the most beautiful towns on the Tauber and Main rivers. The Old Town Festival is the biggest event in the summer calendar and is organized by market manager Carmen Saalmüller on behalf of the city.
On the last weekend of July 2026, the alleys and squares of Wertheim's historic old town to the right of the Tauber will transform into a three-day festival zone. Under the motto „Festival of Diversity“, the 2026 Old Town Festival stands for musical, culinary, and cultural breadth.
Throughout the weekend, there will be multiple stages with live music of various styles, an integrated „Festival of Beers“ with regional and supra-regional breweries, and food stalls offering Franconian-Swabian classics and international cuisine. For fire safety reasons, only mobile, easily dismantled stalls up to 3 meters deep are permitted in the historic old town — the stall density thus remains high and compact.
Detailed stage program and band names will be published on wertheim.de.
