Market for the Minster Consecration Day

The Doberan Minster Market annually commemorates the consecration of the Doberan Minster on June 4, 1368. The organizer is the Klosterverein Doberan e.V., which has been committed to the preservation and restoration of the Cistercian monastery complex for decades. The market takes place annually on the first weekend of June on the monastery grounds.

Stalls and Program

Around 50 stalls present historic crafts: potters, blacksmiths, basket weavers, cloth makers, bookbinders, and candle makers demonstrate their skills. In addition, exhibitors offer artisanal products, plants, herbs, and regional agricultural produce. The medieval group Wolgemuth plays handmade music on stage; jester shows provide entertainment for the whole family.

Support for Monastery Restoration

The entrance fee of €5 supports the ongoing restoration project »New Life Under a New Roof«, which finances the roof renovation of the monastery complex's utility building. This makes the Minster Market a solidarity format between heritage conservation and vibrant festival tradition.

Bad Doberan is located in the Rostock district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). The Doberan Minster is one of the most important Brick Gothic churches in Northern Germany and is part of the »Cisterscapes« network – a European cultural route of Cistercian monasteries, which is a candidate for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Minster Market makes this heritage accessible to a broad audience once a year.
