Three days of city festival in the old town of Eichstätt — »A festival by citizens for citizens«
The Eichstätt Old Town Festival is one of the defining summer events in the Upper Bavarian episcopal and university city in the Eichstätt district of Bavaria. The festival is organized by the city's Tourist Information; the motto has been »A festival by citizens for citizens« for years.
For three days, the squares of the baroque old town become stages: Domplatz, Marktplatz, Pater-Philipp-Jeningen-Platz, Leonrodplatz, and Posthof offer music of various styles – brass music, rock 'n' roll, country, folk, rock, reggae, and club sounds. Additionally, choir and classical concerts take place in the Spiegelsaal of the Residenz.
At the Old Town Festival, Eichstätt's partner cities from France and Italy also present their specialties: French cheeses and wines as well as Italian cured meats and pasta classics. Local restaurateurs complement the offerings with Eichstätt beer specialties and Franconian-Bavarian home cooking.
For children, there is a colorful program with carousels, archery, basketball, and child-friendly musical performances. Eichstätt's clubs – choirs, dance groups, sports clubs – perform on the stages and give the festival its local character.
Eichstätt is located in the Altmühltal Nature Park, one of Bavaria's most beautiful low mountain range regions. The baroque old town with Willibald Cathedral, the Prince-Bishop's Residence, and the Hofgarten forms the ideal backdrop for the Old Town Festival – Eichstätt is also home to the Catholic University, thus shaping the mix of tradition and student life.
From July 3rd to 5th, 2026, the city of Eichstätt invites you to the traditional Old Town Festival. In the baroque old town, several squares will become stages where bands from the region and Eichstätt's partner cities will perform.
On the stages at Marktplatz, Domplatz, Pater-Philipp-Jeningen-Platz, and Posthof, brass, rock, folk, and reggae ensembles will play; classical concerts and choir performances will take place in the Spiegelsaal of the Residenz. The culinary offerings range from French cheeses and wines to Italian specialties and Eichstätt beer. A colorful children's program and contributions from local clubs complement the festival.
