Festival Mile between Amper and Leonhardsplatz
Once a year, on the last weekend in July, the Brucker Altstadt becomes the largest open-air stage in the western Munich metropolitan area. The Brucker Altstadtfest closes Hauptstraße, Leonhardsplatz, and Viehmarktplatz to traffic and transforms the center of Fürstenfeldbruck (Fürstenfeldbruck district, Upper Bavaria) into a continuous festival mile. It is open on Friday evening from 7 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from 12 p.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Bruck's shops participate on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. with a Sunday shopping event.
Five Stages, Around 35 Bands
The musical backbone consists of five stages with a total of around 35 bands and music groups of all styles – from the Jiri Mares Bigband, the Brucker Stadtkapelle, and local choirs to cover bands, indie, and party formations like "SolidAge" or "Born Wild" most recently. The festival traditionally opens on Friday evening with gun salutes and a short address by the Mayor of Bruck on the main stage at Leonhardsplatz. During the day, Bruck clubs also perform, from dance schools to sports clubs – the spectrum ranges according to the program "from A for Acrobatics to Z for Zumba".
Culinary Offerings
Around 80 stalls offer food from all over the world across the old town: Bavarian classics and delicacies from Bruck clubs, plus vegan options, Ethiopian and Japanese specialties, street food, and sweets. Beer from the nearby König-Ludwig-Schlossbrauerei is served, as well as wines and cocktails at the bars of Stadtbiergarten and Viehmarktplatz. Reusable cups and wristbands are intended to reduce waste.
Children, Clubs, and Civic Dialogue
On Saturday and Sunday afternoons (1 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day), there is a dedicated children's program with crafts, games, and performances. A special feature of Bruck is the "Fundrad-Versteigerung" (lost bicycle auction) on Saturday morning, where unclaimed bicycles from the lost and found office are auctioned off. On Sunday afternoon, the mayor invites to an open civic dialogue hour – a low-threshold format that also anchors the Altstadtfest politically.
Tradition with Unbroken Resonance
The Brucker Altstadtfest is one of the established events in the Upper Bavarian event calendar and fills the city center every year with tens of thousands of visitors from Fürstenfeldbruck, neighboring districts, and the state capital Munich. Today, it is one of the most important city festivals in Bruck – alongside the Brucker Volksfest and the Christkindlmarkt – and combines urban organization with the commitment of clubs, showmen, and local gastronomy.
