Vogelschießen — not Schützenfest!
In Marmstorf, there's an iron rule: This event is called Vogelschießen. Whoever uses the word "Schützenfest" traditionally buys a round. That's what makes Marmstorf's tradition — and sets the tone with the name itself: here we celebrate, drink, shoot, laugh, and sometimes dance, for four days at the NOVA parking lot.
The Tradition: Shooting at the Wooden Bird
At its heart is the traditional Vogelschießen with small-caliber rifles at a wooden bird — not a real one. Over several days, the individual parts of the bird — head, tail, wings — are shot off; the highlight is the shots at the "torso." Whoever brings down the torso becomes the new king of the club.
Festival Tent and Volksfest
- Grand Zapfenstreich on Friday evening
- Four days of festival tent with live music
- Chains of swing, children's carousel, shooting gallery, bumper cars
- Bakery and beer garden
- Grand fireworks on Saturday, approx. 10:30 PM
- Sunday 10:00 AM–12:00 PM: Citizen's King Shoot (participation from 18 years for non-club members)
A Class Reunion for All of Marmstorf
The people of Marmstorf affectionately call the Vogelschießen their "class reunion." Generations meet here — schoolmates, club colleagues, old neighbors. Those who have moved away from Marmstorf come back for the Vogelschießen. The festival grounds open daily from 2 PM and fill up over the course of the day.
In the Harburg District
Marmstorf is located in the south of Hamburg, in the Harburg district — a district with a village character, nestled in the Harburg Mountains. The NOVA parking lot on Feuerteichweg serves as the festival site during the Vogelschießen and is easily accessible on foot from the Marmstorf village center.
