Traditional club May festival in the Saarbrücken district of Dudweiler
Behind the dialect-influenced name Geisekippcher Buwe unn Määde (Boys and Girls from Geisekipp) lies one of the traditional clubs of the Saarbrücken district of Dudweiler. Its annual Maifest is one of the firmly established dates in the Dudweiler event calendar and attracts visitors from far beyond the district borders – typical for the strong club life in the Saarbrücken district.
The venue is the club's clubhouse at Solferinostraße 18a in Dudweiler. The festival grounds with the clubhouse, meadow, and covered stage have become the small home of the Maifest over the years. Its location on the edge of the district, overlooking the Geisekippcher slope, gives the festival its special, almost village-like atmosphere – even though Dudweiler is officially part of the state capital Saarbrücken.
The Maifest spans two days: On Saturday afternoon from 4 p.m., the program begins with musical entertainment, opening speeches, and performances by friendly clubs – typical are fife and drum corps, music clubs, and dance groups from the region. On Sunday from 11 a.m., the festival continues with a special medieval focus for children: activities with historical games, costumes, and small craft stations that playfully take children back to the Middle Ages.
The 2026 edition holds special significance: In a ceremonial act, long-time chairman Werner Poller will hand over the club leadership to Annabelle Lintz-Sonntag. Poller will be appointed Honorary Senator – for his long-standing commitment and services to club life in Dudweiler. For the Geisekippcher Buwe unn Määde, this marks a generational change, making the 2026 Maifest a historic edition.
Culinary-wise, the Maifest remains classically Saarlandic: Bratwurst, Schwenker (grilled meat), fries, homemade cake, and the obligatory draft beer. Admission is free, the atmosphere is family-friendly – anyone who wants to experience authentic Saarland club life is in the right place.
The 2026 edition is a special one: at the Maifest, the club chairmanship changes from Werner Poller (now Honorary Senator) to Annabelle Lintz-Sonntag. The program includes live music, performances by friendly clubs, medieval activities for children on Sunday, and the club's full culinary offering.
The detailed band program will be published shortly before the festival on dudweiler-blog.de and at the clubhouse.
