Major Faasend Event in Dudweiler
The Dudweiler Rathaussturm is one of the most traditional Faasend events in the Regionalverband Saarbrücken. The venue is the Bürgerhaus Dudweiler, and the festival is organized by the Festausschuss Dudweiler Faasenacht e. V. — an association of the seven carnival clubs of the Dudweiler district of Saarbrücken.
Who is represented in the Festival Committee
Seven active Faasend clubs come together:
- Faasend-Stränche Dudweiler
- DCC Disco-Club Dudweiler
- Karnevalsverein Pfaffenkopf
- And four other district clubs
Each club presents its own stage program — dance troupes, show dances, satirical speeches (Bütt-Reden), sketches. The result is a very long, but varied hour-long party in the community center hall.
The Three Main Events
- Wednesday (Handover Negotiations) — District Mayor Ralf-Peter Fritz and city representatives conduct ceremonial negotiations with the Prince and Princess, Larissa II and Nele I, and representatives of the seven clubs. Honoring deserving club members.
- Friday (Rathaussturm) — Seven carnival groups, marching bands, and music groups stage the actual storming. All participating clubs present themselves in the main hall of the community center, followed by a party in the Pfaffenkopf club cellar and the DCC disco.
- Sunday (Parade) — Grand Faasend parade with a march in Kalkofenstraße, then via Saarbrücker Straße through the pedestrian zone and the town center.
Bürgerhaus Dudweiler
The Bürgerhaus Dudweiler is a modern event hall in the Dudweiler district of Saarbrücken — accessible, with parking, ample catering, and a large main stage. An ideal hall for the multi-hour event, offering space for movement, good visibility, and excellent acoustics.
Saarland Faasend
Important to know: In Saarland, Carnival is called Faasend. The tradition is distinct, closer to the Palatinate Fastnacht than to the Rhenish Carnival of Cologne. Dudweiler has a particularly active Faasend scene with the oldest parade in the Saarbrücken districts.
Who Should Visit
Anyone who wants to experience Saarland Faasend in its purest form, without tourist crowds and without paying an entrance fee, is in the right place. Families are just as welcome as party-goers. Costumes are welcome, but not mandatory.
