Traditional Kirchweih in Saxon Switzerland — 18 to 20 September 2026
Reinhardtsdorf-Schöna is a municipality in the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge in Saxony, a state-recognized health resort, located directly on the right bank of the Elbe in Saxon Switzerland — with the districts of Reinhardtsdorf, Schöna, and Kleingießhübel. A traditional Kirmes (fair) has been celebrated here for generations: a village festival with rides, music, culinary delights, and the characteristic festive atmosphere of a Saxon Kirchweih. In 2026, the municipality and local associations invite you from 18 to 20 September to the Waldbadstraße festival grounds.
The program follows the typical Kirmes dramaturgy: Opening on Friday, 18 September, at 6 PM — with a beer tapping ceremony, live music, and the first rides. Saturday, 19 September, is the main festival day — open from 10 AM, with live bands, amusement rides, a festival tent, association stalls, and a lively folk festival atmosphere until late into the night. Sunday, 20 September, from 10 AM begins with the traditional Frühschoppen (morning pint) and ends in the late afternoon — with dancing, beer, bratwurst, and the typical Saxon conviviality that makes the festival a gathering for all generations.
Classic rides are spread across the Waldbadstraße festival grounds — Ferris wheel, carousel, chain carousel, dodgems — and amusement stalls offering sweets, candied almonds, and Saxon snacks. The regional cuisine includes bratwurst, pea soup, Quarkkeulchen (a Saxon specialty), and of course, draft beer. Several associations — fire brigade, sports club, heritage society — operate stalls and contribute to the village character of the festival.
Saxon Switzerland, with its rock formations around the Bastei, the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, and Königstein Fortress, is one of Saxony's best-known tourist regions. Reinhardtsdorf-Schöna is located directly on the Czech border river Elbe and is considered an ideal starting point for hikes — for example, to the Großer Zschirnstein (562 m), the Schrammsteine, or Königstein Fortress. Visitors to the Kirmes can combine the folk festival with a hiking weekend.
From Friday, 18 September 2026, 6 PM, to Sunday, 20 September 2026, the municipality of Reinhardtsdorf-Schöna, together with local associations, invites you to the traditional Kirmes. The venue is the Waldbadstraße festival grounds; the grounds are designed to be weather-proof, so the festival will take place even in case of rain.
Admission to the festival grounds is free; rides, food, and drinks are payable separately. The festival is considered one of the largest village folk festivals in Saxon Switzerland and attracts visitors from the entire region.
Free admission. Rides €2–5. Beer approx. €4 (Mass approx. €8), Bratwurst approx. €3.50, Pea soup approx. €4. Amusement stalls moderately priced.
