CSD 2026 on Stonewall Memorial Day
CSD Mülheim 2026 deliberately falls on June 28 — the exact anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riot. Demo Schedule June 28, 2026
Assembly from 4:00 PM. Demo starts at 4:45 PM at Dieter-aus-dem-Siepen-Platz. Demo procession through Mülheim's city center to Regenbogenplatz. Closing rally around 6:30 PM with speeches, music, and performances.

CSD Mülheim on Stonewall Memorial Day
Christopher Street Day Mülheim an der Ruhr is deliberately taking place on Sunday, June 28, 2026 — the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riot, the historical starting point of the modern LGBTQIA+ movement. The organizers emphasize the political character of the demonstration: “Diversity is not a trend, but a reality.” With the motto “Loud & Proud,” Mülheim in 2026 joins a long line of CSDs fighting for the rights and visibility of the queer community in times of growing right-wing extremist movements and anti-queer currents.
Demo Starts at 4:45 PM at the Main Station
Assembly for the demonstration from approx. 4:00 PM. The demo starts at 4:45 PM at Dieter-aus-dem-Siepen-Platz directly at Mülheim Main Station. The demonstration procession moves through Mülheim's city center — floats, walking groups, dance crews, and rainbow flags — to the closing rally around 6:30 PM at Regenbogenplatz, a newly inaugurated symbolic square for queer visibility in the city.
Closing Rally at Regenbogenplatz
The closing rally at Regenbogenplatz combines political speeches with artistic contributions. Speakers include representatives from Queer Sohbet (LGBTQIA+ community with a migrant background), the alliance “Mülheim stellt sich quer” (anti-right-wing alliance), the City of Mülheim, and SVLS e.V. (Gay and Lesbian Association on the Lippe and Schwarzbach). Music and performance acts will round off the rally.
Rainbow Flag on the Town Hall Tower
As a visible sign of municipal solidarity, the rainbow flag is traditionally hoisted on Mülheim's town hall tower for the CSD weekend. This signifies the city leadership taking an official stance for the queer community — a gesture that must be fought for anew in times of social polarization.
Stonewall Memorial Day — The Historical Root
Since 1970, June 28 has been internationally recognized as the day commemorating the 1969 Stonewall Riot. On that night on Christopher Street in New York City, queer people openly resisted police repression for the first time — the beginning of the modern LGBTQIA+ liberation movement. CSD Mülheim, taking place on the exact Stonewall date, emphasizes this historical anchoring — unlike many other CSDs that schedule their dates based on local availability.
Mülheim an der Ruhr in the Ruhr Area
Mülheim an der Ruhr (approx. 173,000 inhabitants) is located in the heart of the Ruhr Area, between Essen and Duisburg. The city is home to the Krupp foundation and patron family and boasts a remarkable green area with the MüGa grounds and Müga Park (for the 1992 Federal Garden Show). Mülheim's queer community has been organized for decades — while the CSD here is smaller than in Cologne or Düsseldorf, it is precisely for that reason more authentic and politically activist.
