About Maibaumstellen Huchenfeld
Maibaumstellen Huchenfeld — edition 2026
Program April 25, 2026
This year's edition follows the traditional dramaturgy. Road closures from 2:00 PM for procession preparations, start at 4:00 PM with the departure of the club groups from Grohwiesenweg. The procession leads via Hauptstraße to the Hochfeldhalle, where the actual Maypole raising takes place.
The procession is accompanied by the Harmonika Spielring and the SV Huchenfeld — both provide musical groups that march to the Maypole and provide the musical program at the festival grounds. After the Maypole is raised, extensive festivities take place at the festival grounds in front of the Hochfeldhalle with catering by SV Huchenfeld — bratwurst, beer, fries, soft drinks. Huchenfeld — Pforzheim district on the Nagold slope
Huchenfeld is a northwestern district of Pforzheim in the Northern Black Forest, located on the slopes above the Nagold valley. With around 3,500 inhabitants, it is one of Pforzheim's more village-like districts — with its own identity, a vibrant club culture, and traditional festivals that structure the year. The Maypole raising at the end of April is one of the most important of these district festivals and brings together the Huchenfeld clubs for a joint celebration of spring.
Program 2026 — April 25
The 2026 edition takes place on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The centerpiece is the grand procession of Huchenfeld clubs, groups, and institutions:
- Start: 4:00 PM at Grohwiesenweg
- Route: via Hauptstraße to Hochfeldhalle
- Finish: Hochfeldhalle with festival grounds
- Music: Harmonika Spielring and SV Huchenfeld accompany the procession and provide music at the festival grounds
- Maypole raising: in front of the Hochfeldhalle with a traditional raising ritual (pulled by hand, with the help of club members)
- Catering: from 4:00 PM by SV Huchenfeld — bratwurst, beer, fries, soft drinks, cake
Traffic regulation on festival day
During the procession and festival, parts of Hauptstraße and the street Zum Nagoldblick are closed to car traffic between 2:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Diversions are signposted. Those arriving in Huchenfeld by car should plan for parking on the outskirts of the district.
Maypole — Spring custom with symbolic power
The Maypole raising is one of the oldest customs in Southern Germany. The Maypole, decorated with ribbons, symbols, and club representations, is erected in the center of the village — a visible sign of the coming May, a symbol of vitality and fertility, and the focal point of the village community. In Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Austria, and South Tyrol, Maypole raising remains a living tradition. In Huchenfeld, the Maypole traditionally bears emblems and symbols of all Huchenfeld clubs — the sports club, music club, fire department, church communities, local history society. It is thus an inter-club symbol of the district's identity.
Club culture as the backbone
What makes the Huchenfeld Maypole raising special is the participation of practically all Huchenfeld clubs, groups, and institutions: Sports club SV Huchenfeld, Harmonika Spielring, music clubs, fire department, church communities, schools, kindergartens, traditional costume clubs, local history society. Everyone has their role — either in the procession, during the raising, or in catering. This comprehensive participation is what makes a district event a true community festival.
