30th Anniversary — four days, three stages, Pentecost in the state capital
Magdeburg, the capital of the state of Saxony-Anhalt and one of the largest cities between Berlin and Hanover with over 235,000 inhabitants, has been celebrating its City Festival since the mid-1990s. The organizer is MMKT GmbH (Magdeburg Marketing Kongress und Tourismus), the main stage is traditionally located on the Alter Markt in front of the town hall and the Magdeburger Reiter — the oldest free-standing equestrian statue north of the Alps.
The City Festival runs from Friday to Pentecost Monday. Three venues are established: the Alter Markt as the central main stage with the big headliners in the evening, the Ratsgarten with family-oriented programming, children's and daytime activities, and the Martin-Luther-Platz as a stage for Irish Folk and Country. In addition, food stalls, carousels, and bungee jumping are spread throughout the city center. Admission is free; only special activities like bungee jumping cost extra.
The anniversary edition takes place over Pentecost weekend, from May 22nd to 25th, 2026. With The Clogs from Berlin on Friday, the Rolling Stones tribute band Starfucker on Saturday, a Schlager Sunday with an open-air church service, and a Country and Rock stage on Pentecost Monday, it's a classic City Festival program. Main sponsors are Sudenburger Bier and several local partners. Magdeburg celebrates in the heart of its city — and for decades, the festival has been one of the most important early summer dates in Saxony-Anhalt.
