Demonstration, street festival, and action weeks for queer visibility in the state capital
The CSD Magdeburg is more than a parade. It is the most important queer manifestation in the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the political showcase for the community in an East German state where right-wing shifts and hostility are unfortunately not just abstract headlines. Organized by CSD Magdeburg e.V., the demonstration winds through the city center of the state capital in the independent city district of Magdeburg and ends at the Alter Markt, where the stage, information mile, and after-show program are layered.
The first pillar is the CSD Action Weeks, which start two weeks before the main date: readings, queer film nights, discussion panels, workshops, and concerts in bars, cultural centers, and at the university. The second pillar is the demonstration itself — colorful trucks, club floats, trade unions, church groups, and individuals marching visibly through Magdeburg under the annual motto. The third pillar is the street festival at the Alter Markt with a main stage, DJ sets, drag performances, and a large information mile where queer clubs, counseling centers, and bookstores set up stalls.
The CSD Magdeburg explicitly sees itself as a demonstration, not just a city festival. The motto “Gemeinsam weiter kämpfen” (Continue to fight together) sums up the mood: queer rights are not a given in East Germany, visibility is work. The Magdeburg activists are closely networked with local political parties, trade unions, the church, and cultural institutions. In 2026, the CSD falls on the same Saturday as the 30th Magdeburg City Festival — the entire city center will be buzzing.
In 2026, the Magdeburg activists are once again coordinating the demonstration and city festival so that the city center becomes a huge queer meeting zone for a long day. The program and demonstration route will be published in early summer 2026 on csdmagdeburg.de and the association's social media channels.
Two weeks of readings, workshops, film nights, parties, and discussion panels in Magdeburg's cultural centers, bars, and at the Otto von Guericke University. Detailed program to follow in summer at csdmagdeburg.de.
The full stage program will be published a few weeks before the CSD. Confirmed acts will be continuously announced on the official channels of CSD Magdeburg e.V.
Magdeburg Hbf is centrally located and easily accessible by ICE/IC from Berlin, Hannover, and Leipzig. From the main station to the Alter Markt is a 10-minute walk or a short tram ride (lines 1, 2, 5, 8 to "Alter Markt"). Those arriving by car can park in the underground garages at City Carré or Allee Center.
The demonstration traditionally starts at Hasselbachplatz or Universitätsplatz and ends at Alter Markt. The exact route will be published a few weeks before the event on csdmagdeburg.de.
CSD Magdeburg is working to make the demonstration route and stage program accessible. Sign language interpreters for the main stage program have been established in recent years.
Registration for trucks, club stalls, and volunteers is via csdmagdeburg.de. Donations and memberships help fund the organization.
